Hi Guys, I wonder if any of you fellow chatters could please help me out? With the Ferrari owners site for classic parts out of action I am looking for some one who has a parts cataloge for 308/328. The part number im looking for is to do with the half shaft drive shafts cv joint . Its the tin type "hat" that the rubber boot fits over ( the bigger end of the rubber boot) its tin or very thin yellow type steel with holes in that fits over the cv bearing? I hope I havent confussed anyone. Ive attached a link to a picture from a fellow member http://visser-scully.ca/tools/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=18&pos=48 it shows shaft etc its the goldish looking part next to the arrow ( not the washer). Many thanks Mark.
According to my 328 parts book, you can't buy that part separately. The book lists clamps, the rubber boot, and the bolts as individual items, but otherwise, you have to buy the whole axle shaft. Bummer. -Steve
Have you tried downloading the parts manual from somewhere like Jenkins or looking at the parts list at Eurospares ? Both options seem to be regularly recommended here
Eurospares dont seem to list any drive shaft parts for the 328, no diagrams for the cv bearing flange boot. Not tried Jenkins for part manual. cheers Mark
I cant believe I cant buy this part on its own, Porsche use the same cv bearing with a different flange and you seem to be able to buy them. Maybe I need to search out a different manufacturer or supplier GKN or somit. cheers Mark.
It looks like an omission in my '88 parts catalog. They have all the parts for the ends the half shafts attach to, but there's no exploded view of the half shafts or CV joints themselves. They just list the shaft, the boots, the boot clamps and the bolts. Those CV joints have to be rebuildable, but there's no info in the parts catalog about how to go about it. Maybe the 308/328 shop manual has more information.
Do a search on "Lobro Porsche 930" -- IIRC, David Feinberg had given some detailed information on this subject (Lobro is the brand name of the CV joint, and it's used on Porsche 930 too).
Thanks guy's I seem to be geting a little closer ....the 348 and 355 use same lobro bearing so i may try a seach there to try and locate and cros ref nos etc... cheers for now....
It's a very common design now with so many FWD systems.....is there a chance a local axle rebuilder would handle it, off "an old FIAT"....... As you note Ferrari an be very troublesome to support outsourced items like this in their own books, as they had little need......
It's true Ferrari uk classic parts do not stock this item for the 328 any more. The rubber boot is avaliable still, but not the steel flange unless you buy the compleate drive shaft ass with cv's !!! However made a few calls and Phill of QV-London had a second hand one F.O.C. top bloke so many thanks to him and the Qv- London Guys. S0 if you 328 owners need an original you will find its very hard to find one now , the 355-348 are almost the same but require mods for the 328. good luck. the Porsche (930) 911 turbo old school flange is not the same, went to Porsche hq uk and went through drawings with them and looked at parts nothing, the boot may fit some 328's though. cheers Mark
