I have always wanted a 308 / 328 GTS , I now have the money and more importantly my wife will let me spend it, I don't really want a car until spring but thought buying now may save me a few pounds. Where should I be looking , I have seen Piston heads, any other good places to look ?

    Hi Darren,
I am putting my 308 GTS up for sale this weekend , its rosso corsa with chocolote brown and tan interior , 16" compomotive split rims and original 14 wheels , tubi exhaust (sounds awesome).
I'm a professional car detailer , so the car is as you would expect , absolutely mint .
Its a well known car on here , if you're interested PM me and I'll tell you more about it ,
    Cheers
    Dave

    Darren,

I recently saw Davez 308 one of Davez's work colleagues Ian a neighbour showed me, yes it is excellent condition.

Alternatively try Nick Cartwrights in Derbyshire, give them a call and visit, i purchased my 328 GTS from them the service was excellent.

    Best of luck hunting.

Hi Darren, and welcome to Fchat.

TBH Ferrari prices dont seem to fluctuate with the seasons believe it or not, more with supply and demand for a paticular model. With the car you are after condition really is everything, and having had DaveZ's car in my garage for some months whilst his own garage was refurbed, I can honestly say that its one of the very best out there, and it drives peachy to boot.

What is your budget, there is a big price gap between a poor 308 and a top notch 328.

I have sent PM to DAVE Z,

My budget depends on the car I have 2 ideas.

I am quite capable of doing my own routine maintenance but appreciate that a full service history by the correct garages makes a large difference to the resale price particularly with Ferraris.

I am therefore looking at this purchase in two different ways.

    1) Buy the very best car I can find with the correct history at the right price and keep it fully serviced and in top condition using the services of a reputable specialist, only driving it when it's completely dry and polishing it every weekend.

My budget for this sort of car would be up to 25K or maybe pushing 30K for something very special.

    2) Buy a nice car (no dogs or rust buckets) that's not got perfect history, maybe not full service history or maintained by the current owner, or previously stolen recovered etc etc, I would then put the car in top condition myself and maintain it myself in the future. (With specialist help as required) This type of car would have to be much cheaper, and the price reflect the condition or missing history.

Take it from me mate, option 2 is a mugs game. A "cheap" 308 will be at LEAST £19k. Its is soooooo easy to do £5k on these cars it aint true. So that immediately puts you into £24k tettitory, where, if you look long enough, you will find a PROPER 308/328 with good history in tip top nick. Your choice, but just my 2p worth :)

A quick question ( maybe I should list this as a new question ) but.
    How good is a good 328 ?
I have seen 2 both discribed as MINT , both were very good and according to their owners not had any paint work.
Both had some signs of bubbles appearing in the bottoms of the doors , both had oil collecting on the sump.
one had the heater led bar graph not working ? how much to fix ?
one had air con not working ?
Boths cars £30-31K with approx 20K miles.

These cars are nearly 20 years old will I find better ?

    You will definately find better.

No paint?? No chance.ALL Ferraris have had some paint, its just something you have to accept.

20K miles? No chance. Always makes me chuckle the amount of 308/328/355's that are STILL in the early 20k miles...

An inspection by a respected dealer or indie is a must Darren. I'm not far from you (Cannock) so if I can be of any help, PM me. Hollies are good guys and will check a potential purchase thoroughly

at 20 years old, give or take, there is bound to be some bits wrong.

A/C Gas does migrate through the hoses and a/c stops working after a while. I recharged mine last year and its just about stopped working again now. Not that I use it really.

I'd only accept 20K miles if it had a cast iron history with dates and milages on every service record and that the dates and milages tallied with those on the MOT certifiates.

Lower doors are a regular place to find bubbles on 308/328's, they need doing every once in a while.

An inspection is very worth while - but you tend to get a real feel from the car, its owner and its istory. I've become a bit anal in keeping the service records in order, and have a spreadsheet cross linking all the work done. The bloke I bought the car from was much the same, (plus he was minted) gave me a good feeling.

I've looked at a few since buying mine and there are a lot worse cars out there for more money than I paid, makes me feel good!

At 49K miles (10 of whic I've put on) my car is a lovely usable, and gets used, thing of beauty. Always been sceptical of ultra low miles and wouldnt have that to of my list of wants.

Shiltec at loughborough are also very good and will look at a car for you.

PS I'm about an hour and a half from you - offer still stands and remember you will probably need to travel to get the right car - mine came from Petersfield...

I agree with both hazy and andrew , when i was looking I was amazed at how many low mileage cars didn't add up when i went through the service history , I searched till I found a genuine car , yes the mileage was higher than the others , but everything was there in place to back it up.
The previous owner had it 7 years and his reason for selling was also genuine , he'd just bought a 355.
