I removed my evaporator off my 308 QV Euro for checking and cleaning. But, I do not think the copper capillary tube for the expansion valve and silver (aluminum?) capillary tube from the console T-Stat were positioned correctly. They were just pushed in through the top rubber seal that goes around the two freon lines to the evaporator.

Does anyone know exactly how/where each one should be positioned in the evaporator chamber? Do either or both need to be clipped to the main larger or smaller freon tubes for direct contact? Is this even critical?

    Thanks,

    Bob R.

Do they even need to be IN the evaporator chamber?

While awaiting for a reply to my inquire I grabbed a "C" clip out of my parts bin from a few years ago that I initially found in the spare tire well. At first I did not know what it was for and had posted a thread on Fchat asking about it. One reply thought it might be a clip for one of the A/C control capillary tubes.
Sure enough I just fit it (see "X" in the photo) to the tubes and discovered that it fits perfectly to the larger (non expansion valve line) as you see from the photo, where I have a white line placed. I tried it on the smaller expansion valve line and it is too loose.

So, based upon the "C" clip's perfect fit-feel, I really think this is correct for the copper expansion capillary tube. Now to figure out the best location for the silver capillary from the T-Stat console control.

Let me know if I'm off base here before I button this all up and reinstall tomorrow........

BTW - I formed the copper capillary line nice and tidy with space to allow the wrenches to access and clear the nuts to tighten the joints.

    Thanks.

That is the correct position for the TX valve capillary. In regards to the T-stat sensing bulb,I'm not 100% sure wheter it should be lodged in the fins on the leaving side of the coil or in the return air plenum. If it is lodged in the fins then it will cycle the compressor on ice up rather than return or cabin air temp.
Also if that C clip is made of metal then it would probably be a good idea to tape the bulb to the suction line with some electrical tape and then attach the clip as you have illustrated. This will aid against dissimilar metal corrosion.

    Thanks Maurice,

I'll check the metal clip as it might be stainless steel (better yes?). If not then I'll isolate the metals as you recommend.

Now, where to put the silver capillary sensing bulb is my final task before reinstalling. I'll check with a place like Vintage Air or Nostalgia Air and see what they say.
