My 308 A/C system has leaked out all of the coolant/freon/134a (Iknow because I needed to remove the compressor for timing belt change). Now I'd like to recharge it with a DIY kit, but the ports on the compressor are nearly impossible to reach so I took a look under the front cowl and found a capped/plugged port from off of a "T" fitting downstream from the dryer (also goes to a pressure switch I believe). I'm curious as to if this is a recharge port? There is no needle or ball to act as a check valve under this cap, so I'm a bit confused as to how it could be, or what it might be for????
How is the system normally recharged, from the compressor mounted fittings, or from under the cowl? Just curious, and figure if I bring a 30 year old Ferrari with Italian A/C system to a local A/C shop they'll be more confused than I am as to how to recharge it...???

I just bought a DIY kit too and the instructions suggest you can fill it up there, but considering these instructions are generic, like you mention, there is no shut-off valve on that "T fitting", so you'd either have to put one on, or try your best to recharge via the compressor fitting (which is how it is shown in the Ferrari manual).

I don't see how yours could be inaccessible, the ports/fittings on my GT4 are right there on top, unless you have a different compressor (it should be a York type, but the Italian-branded version)?

The port under the shroud is there for an auxillary safety switch. It isnt really possible to charge through there unless you knew exactly how much refrigerant the car needs then it could be done by weight, although you really should be looking at suction and discharge pressures.I believe the port under the shround is the liquid line port.See if you have some adapters made up to act as extensions to your existing ports or go to a HVAC shop and ask if they have something off the shelf.
