When I purchased my 83 308 it did not have a air pump. The previous owner or mechanic removed it and these rocked scientist used silcone to plug the holes in the cam shaft... Well now the silcone has come out and you guessed it .... I now have 12 quarts of oil to clean up... Has anyone ever plugged these holes....

The end of the cam originally had the drive spindle for the pulley that ran the airpump. It was a steel piece that was a sliding fit into the cam with an o-ring to seal the oil and a lateral solid steel pin to hold it in place and provide the drive. You could have a machine shop make a suitable plug with an o-ring groove. I could also see making a plug with an interference fit and press it into the end of the cam. This solution would be most workable with the cam out of the engine. If you wanted to get elaborate, you could get a cam from an '84 which does not have the airpump drive and the corresponding cover plate which does not have the hole and the oil seal where the cam protrudes.

    Hey man!

Go see Ferda at Vintage Motor cars...

There were actually two air pumps, originally. You do have a lot of plugs to install when removing them. Don't forget the headers.....

Have you made anymore runs with those guys? We were in the video, you know.......

Mine still has the metal piece with the threads, rotating out in nowhere...I'm gonna fit an Expresso grinder.....
