Today I changed my alternator. I noticed another plug on the back side of the unit. I found my old unit had something plugged in there and screwed on to the back of the unit. My new unit did not come with this so, I swapped it. Please dont mistake this for the big black box on the back which I think is the voltage reg. Any thoughts what this is?

    Thanks,
    Sam

Noise suppressor so you don't get a power surge through your radio.

It is NOT a surge surpressor, just a capacitor to filter out intereference so it won't perturb your radio or the ECUs. Has the capacitance value on it, ending in 'uF' for microFarads. Can be replaced with a more conventional one of the same value from Radio shack, or one sold by auto parts stores for distributor points.
