My 1979 308 GTS tends to backfire when it is shut down. It also has a smell when it idles. Other than that it runs great. It has 41000 miles. I would like to change the points and condenser and have the timing set. Does anyone know of a good place to get these parts or have any other suggestions. Thanks.

I agree, though I think I got my points and condensors from www.italiancarparts.com.

That said, you might want to do a search on backfire. There are a number of threads that attribute this shutdown backfire to a high idle. And the high idle is because someone is trying to make up for poorly tuned carbs IIRC. Plus there's the whole R1/R2 points to search on if your setup is close to original.
