    Is this tool absolutely ness.? Is there a way to make your own. Rutlands said I can rent one for $50/2 wks. Can anyone send me a picture of what one looks like? Can I just have one machined to keep for myself? Any advice or info is greatly appreciated.

    I am trying to remove the rear hub bearings. I heard that I need a special tool for this. As of right now I have the rotor off. How do I remove the shaft?

    The shaft is removed from the backside. It requires the removal of the driveshaft thereby exposing the 'nut' you speak of. The nut is similar to that which holds the steering wheel in place. It has 4 groves that a special tool fits into. Now for the bad part. You will almost certainly ruin this nut even with the correct tool. Not only that the correct replacement is over $30 per nut. I'll be doing the same too in a few weeks time.

    If ruin this nut when removing it can I swap it out for another nut that can be replaced easier?

    FWIW, I made a tool to replace the rear axle seals if anyone wants to borrow it.

    You will want to replace the nut anyway. But if you ruin the grooves that the socket fits into, you'll have a hell of a time getting it off. I made a socket out of a 3/4" drive socket.

    The ring nuts are very thin, and a somewhat unusual metric thread.
    A std metric nut with that thread would be about 2x the thickness of the ring nut & would have to be cut down to fit. Also, chances of 'rounding off' the corners of a std nut are much higher than the ring nut.

    The tool can be bought from www.baumtools.com for about $90. Better than renting one for $60 as you'll have it, or could probably get most of your money back on eBAY.

    Sam, you're quite welcome. I do remember all the great FerrariList & FerrariChat members who helped me survive the 1st couple of years that I had my 308. Figure the only way to pay them back is to continue to pass the knowledge on. Some day it'll be your turn!
