Just tonight, as I drove my 84 308qv, the brake failure light flickered on several times. Usually, it went on when I was at a stop light, and went off when I started driving. Any ideas?? I'll probably take it to LFSC, but wanted to see if anyone had experienced anything similar?

    Thanks.

Yep, sounds like your brake fluid is low.

Check the master and top it off to the proper level.

As brake pads wear, the fluid level will decrease. Check regularly!

No need to go to the dealer.

If I'm wrong, then take it to the dealer.

Mine went bad and I replaced it. The switch can also go bad (common) on the later type. I believe the issue is more often electrical than hydraulic. Dirt can foul the thing.

Skip, worth checking but with a dual circuit (tandem) master, low fluid shouldn't trigger it unless the level really is through the floor.

I had this just happen in my 1979 308. It was low brake fluid. I came close to hauling my car off to a shop as well, then decided to take 2 minutes & check the brake fluid. I felt so stupid afterwards. Came this close to spending hundreds of dollars + time and all it needed was a $5.00 can of "non-synthetic" brake fluid. I hope this is all your car is needing as well.

I just topped up my brake fluid, and the light doesn't light up anymore. The reservoir is a bit difficult to read, but I only added a little amount.

Now, I wouldn't have minded going to LFSC, but now I won't have to drop the car off.

    Thank you very much!!

    Sometimes we get lucky....:)

I had a small problem when my High Idle/Warmup wouldn't kick down all of the time. I just looked in the Coolant Reservoir, and it was low...so low that the warmed up coolant wasn't passing the sensor in the tank, letting it know that the Coolant was now warmed up and the Idle can kick down. I filled it up to the proper level, and,Voila! All fixed....:)

    Philip-

The light on at stop, and off or flickering while moving was the giveaway, as the fluid sloshes while moving, bringing it to proper level at times to turn off the light.

Don, I'm glad it was an easy fix, and saved you an expensive trip to the dealer.:)

OOPS, forgot to mention; check for any leakage of brake fluid!

    Brake lines, calipers etc.
