My 308 came without a right hand door mirror. Does anyone know how to mount one? Does it just screw to the door, or do you have to get inside the door and use some type backing plate?

    Thanks,

You should definately put a backing plate on the inside of the door skin. after you drill the holes in the door skin, treat the freshly drilled holes with some rustoleum and a bit of silicone caulk to prevent rusting there.

All 308 mirrors were originally field mounted, although I've used later RH (328??) doors, with the inserts preinstalled..

Agree with comments above, but you'd better confirm location by sitting in driving position........it may not fall symetrically to the one you already have in the LH door!

If you are installing a Vitaloni California style mirror you might want to know that the base plate is reverse from the original Ferrari mirrors.

Bubba's right. You'll have to get someone to locate the mirror for you while you sit in the driver's seat. That's the way it was done as a dealership-installed option. If you mount a non-convex mirror out there, you'll see even less than the little you see with you driver's door mirror.

George Evan at http://www.evansauto.com/ might still have some NOS Vitaloni California passenger-side mirrors with the old style footprint.

They appear to still have them in stock since they could ship my order out right away.

Thanks for the lead on this item. I had to an epoxy repair to mine last year when the base cracked. I tried to tighten the mirror so it wouldn't droop. I guess nearly thirty years of use is really all one should expect from a part of this nature.

Thanks, Doc. I used to think I knew what I was talking about, but then everyone in my life ignores me!

Nuh uh! You know what you're talkin' 'bout, alright!

Gotta find you a Veglia Clock to replace that cork in your hole.

(That doesn't look right. Hope Rob doesn't see that!)

Yea, that Greg328 is over there rewiring his whole darn car.....but does he remember the guy who spent his WHOLE lunch hour showing him a car?

Making sure his big feet fit OK?

Telling him about the alternator shop?

Pointing out some rust bubbles starting in his car, in the usual spots?

Nope, no clock for ol' Bubba, Greg even sold his used fuse blocks on eBay, as I spent $400 on new ones......

    I'm kind of hungry....good thing Pay Day's tomorrow.......LOL!

Does anyone know if the early 308's used for a mirror like those? Mine looks more like one off a Daytona, only its black.

    Paul,

The 308 GTB prototype, pictured below, had a Vitaloni Californian mirror. Your mirror might have been replaced in the past with a Daytona mirror. Or maybe that's what they had on the shelf the day your car was on the line at the factory.

I've heard that some very early 308GT/4s had Daytona mirrors.
