    Hi,

I know the topic of wheel refinishing has come up often, but I am wondering if the black markings (company logo, rim size, etc) on the stock Campagnolo's were painted on or were they really decals like the ones readily available?

In the future when I redo my wheels, I want them to be EXACT ; )

    Thank You,

    Anthony

    Hi,

...any takers on this one? - I thought the Campagnolo labels were always decals, but I have heard otherwise...?

    Thanks,

    Anthony

I have an original set.....not decals really but I believe painted via silk screen process???

    Anyone else?

If I was to replace I'd have my graphics guys do vinyl logo transfers, it'd be about the same raised relief as the original black paint.

Silk screen would be a pain in the azz to do......HTH

Thank you - anyone ever do this - are templates available?

The last owner of my car had them painted on - they look great, but the wheels will need to be restored sometime in the future and I would like to do them the same way....

silk screening is pretty common in promo shirts and jackets...no idea how it applies to 3D item.......

My graphics guys scan into a computer, clean up the image and output to vinyl with a razor cutter that works like a plotter, more or less.....then they apply a front sheet of masking where you can peel and stick onto the surface....

It lasts well over the years...the handprints on the Ferrari Art Car are still vibrant after years of exposure....

I had these made up and screened on water transfer decal paper. I still have a bunch available if you are interested. when applied correctly they look virtually the same as the silk screen process and much betterthan the very expen$ive mylar stickers that attract brake dust and turn yellow. For $10 bucks you'll get enough for the 4 road wheels, 1 for the spare and a couple of extras.

never had a problem with them wet...I have applied them to my car with a light coat of griot's wheel clear over them to seal them off and I have put them on with out the clear too and they have held up and not come off with washings (car doesn't go out in the rain)...sold a bunch of these on ebay and no complaints (including to several Ferrari dealers)...they are lacquer based so you can only clear coat them with lacquer...one guy tried clearcoating with urethane and it melted the decals so he had to redo...the mylar decals look like crap in my opinion...they turn yellow and attract dust...these really look the closest to the original...the only PITA part is that you have to cut the decals out from the paper and be sure to round the corners. I will try to post a picture of a wheel I did.

    Anthony,

The decals pcelenta sells are perfect reproductions of the painted lettering on the unrestored Campagnolo wheels. I've seen them a number of times at shows and unless you get up close and run your finger over them, they're identical. The only way to keep the original lettering is to learn to live with the slight blemishing found on our vintage wheels.

I consider the rim chips on my Campagnolos part of my car's patina....along with the lacquer checking and chipped paint on the nose.

My wheels have been painted so there is no lettering to see what you guys are talking about. Was this lettering on all three wheel mfg? (Cromodora, Campagnolo, and Speedline??) Do you have any pic so I'll know where the lettering goes?? Pcelenta check your pm, please.

Cromodoras have cast raised relief logos, unpainted (same color as wheel, I mean)...later Campys and Speedlines have silk screened ones...black.
