308 carbed tool kit and books with leather pouch

Only early Vetros come with leather owner's manual pouch. Others have the two clothe type pouches. Just don't mix them up...

Early carb tool kits are hard to come by and all 308 tool kits are costly these days. Good luck.

 

Piezo, Bigtex also had the leather pouch for his cars. Early steel. So I'm also looking for a leather pouch or laurel crown cloth version.

 

Claude I am aware of that. I might being a bit too generalized about the pouches, in fact there's really no clear cut for the change over from one type to another. Was just trying to note galileo about the other types of pouches because no year specified...

All Euro 308's were delivered with cloth pouch, US cars with leather. Exception may be the very first 308's delivered to the US.

Leather pouches on ALL 308's worldwide from approx 1980-81.

 

That's vastly different from the opinions expressed by guys in the 308/328 forum as well as those you can easily find on the web...

 

That's nearly 30 years working on 308's for you. Have a early '79 EURO car myself, original cloth pouch. NEVER seen an original documented EURO car with a leather pouch before 1980.

Recently mechanically restored late steel '76 US car, original leather pouch. Same on early '77 US steel car recently restored.

 

Not challenging your experience, but several owner in Europe said they got leather pouch in the vetroresina thread, may be they all got later replacements...

And did you say in your earlier reply that all 308s after 80-81 got leather pouches? There are a lot of 308 owners reported having either one of the clothe type pouches, including myself with the original books, warranty and all maintenance history file in a box...

My guess is yes but lets wait for the experts answer.

 

IMO leather pouches only 1975/1976 for Vetros. Late 1976 to late 1979 texture pouch with "small horsey with laurel" , from late 1979 on "big horsey".

 

Many opinions and few PROVEN facts.

Seen DOCUMENTED original pouches in all models, leather, small horse with laurels and large horse without.

Leather pouch in original June 1977 US delivered steel car, leather pouch in 2 original steel December 1976 US delivered cars. Leather pouch delivered in original US delivered Vetrosina's with wetsump engine.

Never seen original EURO Vetrosina drysump with leather pouch, early cloth pouch with laurels. However, recently serviced a 1981 carb 308, one owner from new, original delivery Italy with the early pouch.

Safe to say, owners back in the day got whatever Ferrari had in stock...... There is NO exact answer to this question.

Look in the current ad, for the 1977 308GTB North American car, it has an excellent set of books, that match what came with my car...

I had leather pouches, FWIW.

 

I owe a 1977 vetroresina, european, classiche certified. Asked them about this issue and they assured me today thats european cars didnt have leather pouches, but the cloth one
