Not difficult at all to replace.
    - carefully grasp setting stem with needlenose pliers and pull off knob
    - using thumbs push chrome ring off, requires patience and use of thin spot on the ring to get it started
    - pull off front, separate plastic crystal, replace with new and reverse procedure
    - recommend glass replacement from above referenced source ,it won't frost with cleaning

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "thin spot on the ring?"

    Thx!

You will see it when you are about to remove it. It's about a half inch length of the ring that is half width for the purpose of removal.

In my case, I had to bend some of the chrome rings off when restoring the gauges. You can get a plastic covered set of pliers to help re-crimp them around the gauge during reassembly.

Although your method does indeed work I recommend for those less skilled perhaps to unscrew the chrome ring using the thinned area as the starting point to getting it off the plastic lip. Then, turning the ring and pressing until it comes off. Less chance of dinging up the chrome ring is all.

Ok I give, definitely less skilled here. How are you using your thumbs to work the ring off? Image Unavailable, Please Login

Need to remove the set knob first. If you can't get it I will be happy to do it for you if you want to send it all to me. Just send me a PM. No charge.

Since almost every radio in a 308 has the time displayed, has anyone come up with an alternate gauge to replace the clock?

Anyone just polished the original plastic lens?

Also, safest way to remove the clock from the dash? Just gently pry it out, or is there something retaining it?

I don't have one in mind that matches, but a voltmeter would be a lot more useful than a clock.

Even better would be a boost gauge, but that's a MUCH bigger project.

I'm thinking an OAT guage...so when it's a hundred and fn forty in the cockpit, I can check the Guage and marvel at the cool 107 degree Phoenix air surrounding the car!

    Ciao!

Is this the same process for the 328? My foggy lens needs replacing.

I just realized I am missing the set knob. Any ideas where I can just find the knob?

You might try hitting a few flea markets and look at clocks that have a similar knob. They just press on and pull off.
