Fellow 308 Enthusiasts, I'm in need of some help. My 84 308 GTS US version has a coolant leak from one of the pan bolts. See pictures. Any insight or opinions on where this is coming from? Thanks so much in advance for your thoughts. Todd Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe a head gasket leak or the coolant pipe in the area. Pull off the rear passenger wheel and wheel well to take a look at the aluminum coolant tube that runs across the face of the engine.
Seems to me coming from waterpump....feel with your finger under the waterpump after driving. Be carefull : its hot there. Guido
I checked the water pump, and I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. I looked around some more, and found that there is coolant in the middle part of the engine under the plenum. It seems like whatever is causing the leak, there is coolant collecting in this middle section and then spilling over the block and running down the side of the engine to the bolts. Also, the bottom connector hose that goes to the Thermostat has coolant all around the hose clamps. I took a picture of what it looks like directly under the plenum. These connector hoses were replaced last summer. I've resorted to the fact that I'm going to have to take the car in. Does anyone recomend a good mechanic in the Grayslake, IL area? Do you think it is safe to drive? Thanks again for your help/suggestions. Todd Image Unavailable, Please Login
There are a few things in there that can go bad. The small hose that goes to the expansion tank goes to the center of the valley under the plenum. It's hard to get to and thus often doesn't get replaced. I don't know how mine hadn't burst before I replaced it. And I am guilty of hoping I could ignore it until I looked at it. Im In marcellus michigan and I have done this to my Car I could do it for you at a lower cost option that a actual shop. just a thought
Whome ever you have replace the hoses, be sure to ask for SRInnovations hoses. These are far superior to the standard hose found and the parts store.
