I have a 79 308gtb, and compared to other cars I have owned the 308 feels very heavy when cornering? Does this car require more gas thru the corners or is there some other technique to make the car more responsive thru corners?

A 308 *is* perhaps physically heavier than other sports cars you've owned. Also, at that age, if the suspension system is still stock and original, you're probably getting a lot of body roll which aggravates how it feels. You could change out the A-Arm bushings to new rubber (or better yet polyurethane), and put on stiffer anti-roll/stabilizer bars. The next step might be to get new shocks and springs, including the possibility of upgrading to more modern lightweight aluminum bodied adjustable shocks. You might take a look at the thread at http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39712

I think you need to explain better how it feels "heavy". Sluggish to turn in? Lots of body roll? Not responsive to the gas pedal when exiting? High steering efforts?

Perhaps a simple solution and not intended to insult your intelligence: Tire Pressure? What a difference it can make.

    Thanks for the replies,

I think to best way to explain it is for example when cornering with an NSX the car sticks to the pavement like glue, but in the 308 I feel that I have to give it more gas and then I am afraid of the insuing body roll if I do so?

Some great advice in the above posts. Have the bushings checked, probably need replacing (use Energy Suspension bushings). The shocks may be history being such an old car so replace them with Koni or, better still, more adjustable units and ALSO lower the car's stance. Stock i find the 308 to be too damn high off the ground (especially the front if you DO NOT carry the spare tire).

Of course it could be the rubber (tires). What tires are on it and the size of your rims. If you have the metric units like i did, i threw my old metrics in the dumpster and got better 17-inch rims and Mich Pilot Sport PS2 tires.
