What's this I hear about being able to improve a 308's crankcase ventilation?
I hear this engine doesn't have the best, resulting in more than average leaks.

Is there a somewhat simple modification? Also, my car's a 1977 carb car.

    Thanks,
    Greg

Cant wait to see the replies here. Cant remember the name of the product but I believe Nick has aftermarket vents that might offer you what you are looking for. Mine has stock ventilation, turns to 8K and no oil leaks.

PS--My car only has a small leak on the bottom cover, nothing major, but I'm always interested in improvements!

no, the little round cylinders (polished aluminum) attached to the valve covers wher ethe old system was. I have insulated the air ducts with bubble wrap foil to keep them cool. the krank vents utilize a well engineered one way valve that neutralizes crankcase pressure.

The small silver object next the oil filter is one of two I'm pretty sure.

Yep! It takes 2, one on each cam cover outlet. I don't have them but a friend did on his 308 and it looks like a simple hose and clamp job to me.

yes, that is it. simple install, although the vents from nick use a straight fitting into the valve cover, when it should take a PIPE thread - so they leak a bit there, i am going to have the correct pipe thread installed. i also looped the exit hose so no oil would spill on the ground - kinda like a sink trap.

You might try sending him a PM, I saw them on his 3.5 liter 308 project car last weekend. I recall him saying something about still recommending them...

So, where do you get the ones that thread into the valve cover? I'm surprised anybody would make one that wouldn't thread into the valve cover....

The opening IS threaded, isn't it?

By the way, I just had a look at the Durable 1 website. Lots of nice goodies there...anybody have any postive (or negative) reviews of their products?

    Thanks,
    Greg

Have their Reaction Rod and Power Brake 1-Way Valve on the car here. Well, technically just the brake valve. The Reaction Rod is here but awaiting the car coming back from some major toys. The problem with the 308 is that during HARD braking it seems the stock reaction bar allows too much play (and my bar has new inserts and i STILL have a problem). When i am at a race track and hard braking, the shifting can go awry (it seems) due to the damn engine moving too much. Durable1's solution should fix this.

Thanks Steve. Just read the 4-page thread on the "brake valve" from last June. Very interesting. Looks like the thing makes a positive difference, if not more vacuum....!!

Anybody trying the lighter pulleys? Better belt tensioner?

    Thanks again,
    Greg

If it were me, rather than spending money to reinvent the valve cover vents, I think I'd just fix the oil leak.

I will fix the leak, but as I understand it, better crankcase ventilation will help prevent future leaks, along with other benefits....

Where do the KV vent to, and what happens at the crank case location.

The cars have 4-connections. One at each valve cover and one from the bottom end, they meet at a oil recovery/trap, and that goes to the stock intake cover. What happens at the bottom end?
