I had to replace the cracked plastic on the deck lid handle. I should have just removed the cable / latch bolt to get more cable length to install. However, saw vid where they removed the latches.
I got the handle installled but now trying to put latches back on. The latches thread into a nut plate that just floats behind. I am not able to get the nut plate aligned to re-install the latches. Sure hope someone has some slick way to these latches back on.

Try a magnet to reposition the nut

The magnet only works well for picking up in the well after dropping. The access from the bonnet side is nil.
Seems like the red taillight has to come out to hold the nut plate from the rear.

I’ve been planning to replace the broken and cracked plastic portion of deck lid release too. Have had the replacement part for years. I’m afraid of the lid not releasing on completion. I’d recommend leaving taillight out until you finish and test cable release thoroughly. I’ve heard too many stories of having to break taillight if cables don’t work
