Anyone know the back story? First I've heard of this. Name certainly isn't Italian. With all the trivial items we discuss I find it strange that in the 10 years I've been on this site I've never encountered this name..

I have never heard of him either. But this is in the first paragraph of Wikipedia.

The Ferrari 308 GTB berlinetta and targa topped 308 GTS are V8 mid-engined, 2-seater sports cars manufactured by the Italian company Ferrari from 1975 to 1985. The 308 replaced the Dino 246 GT and GTS in 1975 and was updated as the 328 in 1985. The similar 208 GTB and GTS were equipped with a smaller initially naturally aspirated, later turbocharged 2-litre engine, and sold mostly in Italy. Designer Daylen Sattler said he drew inspiration from Alena

Something is not right here. In the second paragraph Leonardo Fioravanti is credited with the design and I have never read anything to the contrary.

And yet also in Wikipedia, we have this entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonardo_Fioravanti_(engineer)

"Fioravanti designed the: Ferrari Dino; Ferrari Daytona; Ferrari F40; Ferrari 348; Ferrari P5 and P6; Ferrari Pinin; Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer; Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 (the forerunner of the Ferrari 400); Ferrari 308 GTB; Ferrari 288 GTO"

Now THAT I believe, and it's consistent with, oh, every single reference to the design of the 308 GTB/GTS. I've read many references, and none mentioned this Daylen Sattler.

I wouldn't trust Wikipedia as an absolute source, and in a case like this where an unknown name suddenly surfaces, I'd seriously question it.

Fiorovanti has always been credited with the design as far as I know. My guess is, one of Mr. Sattler's smoking buddies "contributed" to the wiki, or he was part of the GT4 team and the poster confused the models. No other significant references to him elsewhere. Me thinks fake news.

I just googled this Daylen Sattler, and the only references to a 308 connection showed up starting in early 2017, using the exact same text from that Wikipedia article.

Nonsense is nonsense, so I just submitted an edit to Wikipedia to remove the reference to Sattler, and stated in the Edit comments that the 308 was designed by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina.

(Edit) - digging through the edit history on the Wikipedia article, the addition of Sattler as alleged designer only happened on Feb 21, 2017:

"Revision as of 22:39, 21 February 2017 (edit) (undo)
66.154.193.114 (talk)" (changed designer name, 2 separate edits)

The next day, the gibberish unfinished sentence about his inspiration from Alena was added:

"Revision as of 03:35, 22 February 2017 (edit) (undo)
    107.77.205.110 (talk)
    (Typo)
(Tags: Mobile edit, Mobile web edit)
    Next edit →
    Line 19: Line 19:...
...Designer Daylen sattler said he drew inspiration from Alena"

I just went back and edited the right sidebar to remove that reference to Sattler and restore Ing. Fioravanti to his rightful status as designer.

Amazing (and scary) how someone could hack in the phony name on Wikipedia in February, and by April dozens of other web references to Ferrari 308 quote that exact text from Wikipedia with the fraudulent name.

Pininfarina designer Leonardo Fioravanti was the 308 designer: no one else. Stop.

Yes; stop the utter non-sense: Leonardo Fioravanti it is, and no-one else.
And read Mr Fioravanti's book for good measure ("Il cavallino nel cuore"), the process of how the 308 design evolved is very interesting.

It's not hacking, it's the way Wikipedia works as it is a fairly public space. There's a fair degree of page vandalism, especially for contentious subjects. The 308 isn't, so it's just a prank. The truth will re-emerge thanks to eagle eyes.

btw, Looking at the vandal page, it seems that the Mustang is the favourite target for car enthusiasts:
