I have been continuing my elusive search for why my carb 1978 308 will crank on and on, but not start. I have verified fuel, and in pulling out the plug, I see spark....I digress.....I then thought I would pull the distibuter cap to see how the points look. When I pulled the front one, there was a U-connector just laying against one set of points. The connector is attached to a wire. I thought Ah-HA found something wrong.....Then I proceeded to pull the other distributer cap to see where the U-connector should be attached, and low and behold, the other was exactly like it! Can anyone shed any light on this? It seems bizarre that it's supposed to be this way, but both were exactly the same. Does anyone happen to know of a picture of the inside of a distributer housing for reference?

    Thanks,

    Dano

There is a second set of 'retarded' points in each distributor for improved idling. It's common to have these disconnected along with the microswitch that activates them.

Maybe this is what you have.
