I need two new distributor caps for my '75 308 GT4--recommendations on good sources? If relevant, I have Crane ing. Thanks.
Dennis Mcann at allferrariparts.com has some at a reasonable price. superformance.co.uk has aftermarket caps too. 100 pounds each. Or, you can call Magnetti Marelli and request a $10k production run of caps (I hear that is their minimum order amount) for WAY cheaper, and let us know. You could have your own little parts dealer going
There was a thread in the past that there was a problem with the repro caps...hopefully that has resolved itself, but I would still recommend the factory ones. Lot's of sources...try our site sponsors too!
Terrific. I am actually walking out the door to put a repro cap on my 308 - I am not kidding, this very second. Glad to find out I may be in store for a problem. ($180 from TRutlands)
It was posted about 1 or 1.5 years ago...two or three people (IIRC) had issues with them. I presume it has since been corrected, or it was just a bad batch out there. I would think if it was an ongoing problem, that we would have heard more complaints. Ted and Brian wouldn't sell a product they knew had problems...
Front one is on. I really can't understand how a repro is any different quality. It's just a piece of plastic and brass.
I've had some brands of Dist caps that I put on my old Corvette that didn't fit too well- loose fit or wires wouldn't fit tight etc. But it is a pretty simple design. (shouldn't cost more than $50 either)
I had a company car (Ford Taurus) when I worked for Johnson & Johnson. We were told to have them serviced at various chains they had contracts with. So I take it to "60 Minute Tune" for a oil/filter change and minor tune-up (plugs, cap, rotor, air filter). About one month later on Labor Day weekend I am driving home from Vancouver, BC Canada and the car dies on I-5.....coasting to the shoulder it will not restart. Towed to Ford dealer in Seattle (Sunday night, $400 tow and this was 16 years ago!). Get a call Tuesday morning...melted rotor! Dealer said common problem with repros...installed new cap and rotor and all was well. Ever since I insist on factory oem parts (or in rare instances a proven aftermarket part).
