    Hi all,
I had oil leaks in my 84 US QV from both distributors and replaced the seals in each. The front bank still leaks so I'm assuming o-ring replacement is the next step. If so, pretty sure I know the answer but do you have to remove the cam shaft to knock out the pin that holds the rotor shaft? Has anyone had any luck knocking out the pin while the cam shaft is in? Or do I live with the leak until the next major service so not to damage the cam shaft.
Of course if there are any other tricks to solving the leak once it's determined the seal is not the issue, please advise.
    Much appreciated!

It sounds like you’re not quite sure if it’s the seal or the O-ring. The seals on a distributor shaft can be purchased as directional seals, With ribs in the seal. I also put a bit of sealer on the outer flange of the seal before I pressed it in… This combination solved my issue in my ‘82.

Thanks waymar, true that it could still be the seal, the ones I used were not ribbed. Did you use seals with a metal casing or the all rubber ones? also what do you mean by "directional"? If that means they can go in either way, do you remember how you did it? thanks.

The distributor seals on those are seldom problematic in my experience. And I have never used sealant on them.

I have diagnosed O ring leaks by leaving the distributor cap off, pulling the power wire from the coil and running the engine on one bank. It is quite easy at that point to see where the oil is coming from.

The cam extension will need to be pounded out with a long rod and hammer after the pin is removed. Its a tight fit. Hard to imagine it being done with the cam installed.
