Just thought I'd share some recent information about these switches in case anyone is looking for them. My car is missing the button switches in the door jamb. I did a lot of searching, and found this thread: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95157 Back in 2006 when the thread was posted, Stoddard (Porsche supplier) had a direct replacement under the part number 644.615.601.00 (for a Porsche 356). I guess things have changed since then as the current part number is NLA.615.601.00 and the switches are not exactly the same. The button is black and it does not have a male spade connector. I think I can make this work though. The other switch in the picture (white button) is for a Fiat X1/9. Someone said the Fiat used the same switch as the 308 -- they are wrong. A while back an Alfa Romeo part number was posted up as a replacement for these switches - that was wrong too... I patched mine up in the end with a dab of superglue! But if you do find a replacement - please post it up here.
Yeah, i remember looking and looking for a replacement way back when and the closest was the white botton one that you need the single screw to attach.
I bought 4 a while ago when the link first went up. They were an exact match. The didn't look like those pics above. Reading off my invoice Stoddard IMported cars, inc Part# 644-615-601-00 switch 62 Price $12 bought March 2006.
With a small modification, I was able to get these switches to work. The original has a male spade connector, whereas the switches from Stoddard have a funky U shaped end. I cut off the U and soldered on a pigtail and a male spade. I just installed them and they work great. From the outside, the only difference is a smaller diameter black button rather than larger white. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It looks to me as if one half of the U could have been flattened out and re-sized (if necessary) with a file in order to form the spade connector that's required. It's easy for me to say as I don't have the piece in front of me, but it does look possible, plus easier than fabricating a pigtail perhaps?
I actually tried that first. There is not enough material at the end of the U to fit solidly into the female connector. This seemed a good way to add a male connector to the end. The advantages to doing it this way are that it's more secure and the extra length of the pigtail makes hooking it up a little easier. The U is attached to the post in the same fashion as the original -- that is, the end of the post is peened to hold the connector in place. Over time, this works itself loose (I think this is what happened to mine) and the connector separates from the switch post. On these replacements, there is a hole in the post near the end. I inserted the pigtail into the hole, wrapped the wire around then soldered. There is no way the connector will separate from the switch.
Flyngti, In your first post on this thread you said that the switches with oblong mount were not used on 308's. Well, sadly you are wrong! The real 308, namely the 308GT4 , uses that switch as the engine lid open switch. The door open switch on 308GT4 is very close to the pin switches (which are not like the ones used on 308 GTS and GTB) available from Pelican, they are shown in the sticky 308 Parts thread. I've found a Porsche 356 door jamb switch on this site: http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-parts/356-60-65/905-05.php?pn=64461560100#a The part number is the #65. They show 2 types (no photo), at US $63 or 23 bucks. If you want to investigate... Cheers
I ordered switches from them as well and they were the black ones aka not the correct ones. They told me that they used to have the golden ones but no longer. Didn't you find that the diameter of the metal casing of the switch is too big for the mounting hole? On mine they wouldnt fit. Helmut
You are right, the switch is very slightly too big in diameter. About three strokes with a round file on the hole made it fit.
