My 83 308's door is stuck shut. Can't unlock to open it. Trying to get the panel off inside, but being met with resistance as I believe some of what I need to get to involves the door being open. Advice, thoughts?

have you tried a slim jim (not the beef jerky) or called a locksmith? that's where I'd start before trying to remove trim panels.

    driver's or passenger's door?

Passenger, at least I'm not "Dukes of Hazzarding" with the leg up and over I guess. Will try the slim jim, if that doesn't work I'll shove some turkey jerky down the panel.

    Thanks

I had monkeyed around with my door, got it a bit out of adjustment. Occasionally the door would not open. The handles would pull but the latch would not release. You cannot get the door panel off without having the door open or your going to hurt something. I was able to get the door open by carefully pushing the door inward while working the handle. Click!

Both door release handles, the outer and inner, are hooked seperately to the latch mechanism. Its impossible for both to come disconnected. Therefore the issue must be within the latch mechanism, and is more than likely and out of adjustment issue or the door is pressured. Something as simple as catching the seat belt under the door, a floor mat etc., could cause the door to be under pressure and pushing out on the latch. It will not release if there is pressure pushing the door outwards.

had this happen once on one of mine, also the passenger side, i think its due to lack of use!

look at the body seams , especially the round air vent edges in the quarter panel and at the door. lift up or push down slightly while holding the latch open. dont jerk on the latch, and be careful mot to dent the door. i had to lift up slightly and the door worked fine. a minor adjustment to the striker in the door frame, and a dab of grease, and all was well.

edit : (you are looking at the body seams to make sure the door is lined up and not sagging low, or kicked up and bound by the striker. )

Here's the culprit...Directly to the right of the wiring in the photo. It continues from the mechanism to the bottom of the door. It seems electronic. What is it? Anyone know?
