Hi. I started to replace the seals in the drive shaft as per birdman's tutorial. I understand the driver's side use of an rtv as lubricant as you can remove the old seal when you pull off the dsc. What has anyone done on the passenger side with success? If you use RTV did you have an issue removing the old seal?
Does anyone have any suggestions other than the locktite referenced? I have had issues finding that. A mechanic I know recommended the Permatex 51550. He is not Ferrari guy. Any thoughts on its suitability? I only want to do this once.
    Thanks in advance,
    Joe

There's no issue removing the RH diff seal whether you use a sealant on the OD, or not (I would use a sealant). Once the drive hub piece is removed there's plenty of access to use the typical seal puller to "rip" the old seal out.

That Permatex 51550 seems a very equivalent substitute for Loctite 574 IMO, and should work fine.

PS They are the differential drive hub seals -- they aren't "drive shaft seals". Know that's on Birdman and not you ;).

One addition to the Birdman instructions are that the seal on the passenger side needs to be indented from the lip not flush as per the drivers side. All looked good until the flange clicked into place and there was no clearance to the seal. I know, I should have paid more attention on removing the old seal!

Not sure if this is a big deal or not, however besides using Permatex 51550 and Loctite 574 or another equivalent gasket substitution... per Birdman's drive hub seals instructions, I believe its "highly" recommended to use Curil T sealant, that is if you're able to find it. I used this stuff when I did my seal.... apparently everyone swears by it!!!

The air cooled Porsche crowd loves that Curil T stuff. You can buy it on Pelicanparts dot com
