Hey guys, I am looking for a 308 2v dry sump block, short block or complete engine. Any hints, ideas or proposals are warmly welcome. All the best Morten www.rallyferrari.com
Brian Crall would be me. I do have one laying around but I am not really in the market to sell. Sorry.
Hey Brian, If I was a more frequent Fchatter, I bet I would have known you already Anyway, I have a few other alternatives, so no problem that you keep your block. All the best Morten
I just convert 2 wet-sump engines to drysump with a very original look. The oilpumps are in the engine also driven by chain. Connections are very similar to original drysumpversion. Maybe this is interesting for you. Peter
I thought wet and dry sump blocks were the same casting just machined accordingly. If you look at the wetsump block there is a large unmachined boss on the back for one of the oil lines that the drysumps have. The front cover is different too.
Newman I thought as much until I bought a block and found it did not have the scavenge outlet boss on the side of the block !!! I posted some pic's in another thread . I 'll try and find them . If I remember correctly one of the main bearing caps needs to be drilled and tapped ( possibly on the side of the block as well ) to support the scavenge pump . Found the pic's . The 308 dry sump pump looks very similar to the 360 pump...i wonder it the 360 (or 355 or 348) pumps would easier to get than the rareish 308 dry sump pump?
Maybe some have them and some dont. The reason I mentioned it is someone I know told me they had a wetsump block with that boss but undrilled. Maybe an early block destined for US consumption like a 76 might have?
It's only a two stage scavenge ( 308 drysump ) where the 360 has the pressure side in it as well . The 308 pressure side is in the front housing ., but you have a good point . The 360 pump can be taken apart/ split and maybe you can just use the scavenge end ???
I am sure it would be. I sold a used 308 pump a few years ago for pretty good money to a very well known guy with the resources to find pretty rare stuff. No question in my mind, I'd find a 360 or 355 motor with a leg out of bed and adapt that pump.
Early blocks had the bosses. They went away at some point but I am not sure when. Probably not long after the injection became world wide. I just looked at an 82 here and it has the bosses on the block.
