My 85 308's "D" emegency lever has become disconnected, I believe in the engine compartment area. I was in the process of just testing the cable when it broke. I would like anyones advice on how I can make the repair, or is this something I have to take to the dealer.

I hope to get anyones advice as soon as possible.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

After posting my question on the 308 emergency cable break I went out to the car to check the regular "E" lever. It worked, but only unlatches the hing on the passengers side. The drivers side latch is still locked. NOW WHAT?

    Mike,
I just replaced both of my trunk(engine hatch) release cables last week. The emergency one only runs back to the drivers side latch and is joined to the main latch release cable allowing it to pull both latches. It seems odd to me that your emergency cable failing is impacting the main cable. (Unless it pulled out of the connector.) If it pulled out of the connector then you should only get the passenger side to release and not the drivers side.--Because the cable would not be tight in the connector on the drivers side. There are a couple of threads on releasing the hatch when the cables are inop--it does not look fun. Past methods have included breaking out a taillight to knocking out some molded in plug in the aft wheelwell to poke something in to release the latch. If you can get one side to release, perhaps you can get the hatch to flex enough to slip something in to release the other. Search some of the past threads on this subject- you may get some ideas to help. Good luck.

Glad you found the 2nd cable. Try having someone pushing hard up and down at each corner of the bonnet while you pull the cable and hold it back. Also check the "Search" function. I recall a thread that dealt with the same problem. IIRC he had to remove one of the tail lights or got in someother way. Good luck.
