I have an 85 308. I was testing this cable to make sure it worked when it broke. I believe it became disconnested in the engine compartment. I then attempted to open the bonnet using the regular realease. It worked half way. The latch on the passengers side released but the drivers side is still locked. Is this something I can repair or do I have to take it to the dealer?

I thank everyone for your advice in advance.

    Thanks,

    Mike

There should be several threads about this issue. Most probably the set screw on the collar let the cable slip. I think these collars are a bad design because the set screw is very small and difficult to apply a good torque. It should have 2 set screws or a larger one.

Someone with more experience than me will surely chime in however, it did happen to me too and I remember some suggestions to break the rear lights to access the one lock that is still engaged. As far as I am concerned, this method probably works but...a new light can be expensive.

I followed the "drill the inside fender" method. Basically, you need to drill an access hole in a specific location. You can locate first a rubber plug and select the proper drill bit (Forstner drill bit) to match the hole. About 1-1/2" would be good as it allow to shine a light through and still put your eye to see the lock. Now, it all depends what you have in the trunk, and how the liners, carpet etc. in the car is attached. If you can bypass all the c**p you will be able to see the lock. You will need to fashion a long flat blade screwdriver and open the lock up.
I am sorry, I did this a while back and I do not have more specifics. My car is not accessible right now to post pictures but maybe someone can show what I mean.
Also, I believe I had the trunk with most of the carpet off when this happend.

    Good luck.
