Both the water temperature and oil temperature on my '85 308 seem to vary greatly depending on the external temperature. In the summer both gauges hover a bit past the 195 mark. In 50 degree weather and lower, neither one ever gets any higher than a hair past the tick mark that's between 140 and 195. This seems odd to me, and it bothers me that I might be driving with the engine too cold. Do I maybe have a defective thermostat? Thanks.

Oil temps really won't come up much in winter time on the 308/328/Mondial series, because there is no thermostat, so the oil is always flowing through the oil cooler. You could plug the air flow on the air intake on the driver's side with a towel or rag. The water temps you are seeing are pretty normal too. I wouldn't worry.

I made this to go in the oil cooler inlet on the drivers side. It brings the oil temps up to around 170f or so in ambient temps below 50f.
