I searched the archives and found a jillion post that helped a great deal to remove the switches, clock, cables, seats , etc etc. Everything is out except the actual center console itself. I can't seem to remove the center console as there is not enough room to clear the handbrake or the AC vents and could not find a post about the actual removal of the console itself. Any trick once everything is removed from console to physically remove it from the car? or post a link to help? I would keep searching and struggling but I have a guy coming to redye my interior this weekend. 83 308QV Euro Thanks in advance, Jon
On my 77 308 (USA), I have to first remove the forward tunnel cover/coin holder, which reaches all the way the the front bulkhead. Your foot rubs against this piece when you press the throttle! After this is removed, then more screws are exposed on the front of the main console. After all the screws are removed on the console, it should lift out. Watch out for connections to all the knobs/levers. I did this w/ my car last year, so I may be fuzzy on some of the details! The main thing is to remove the forward cover/coin holder, to expose all of the main console screws. Good luck, Greg
Hey thanks for the help! I don't remember having a problem taking it out on my US QV a couple of years back. I have removed "the forward tunnel cover/coin holder" as well as the seats and all switches. The console is empty. On the Euro, it looks as if there is not enough room to slide it over the handbrake (the handbrake boot is unzipped) without it getting hund up on either the stick shift (the shift ball is removed) or hitting the front AC vents. Thanks, I appreciate your response! Jon
Are you trying to pull the entire console, or just the section with all of the controls? To remove the control section, you remove the ashtray & access screws thru the hole. The control section has to lift out toward's the driver's seat in order to clear the park brake handle. There isn't enough room to pull it out towards the passenger's seat. Suggest putting something on top of the console to keep the levers & cables from scraping & leaving hard to remove rust marks(been there)...
Thanks Verell, I am trying to remove the entire center console out. The control panel has been removed, ditto on the seats, switches. The front section of the console has been removed as well. The shift ball is removed, the handbrake boot is zipped to open position. The only remaining item is the actual center console (the part that houses the shifter and handbrake), that is what I am trying to remove. The problem is that the handbrake level and the shifter shaft won't let me have enough play to remove the console. There are no console screws, switchs or cables in the way, they have been removed, tagged and set aside. Regardless of the twisting and repositioning, I cannot seem to get the last piece of the console clear of either the shifter shaft or the handbrake. As a last resort, I suppose I can just have the guy re-dye it in the car but choose not to. This interior is in good shape, no tears just a bit faded so am getting it redyed. Many thanks for your suggestions. Jon
