    I just took the 308 off the road for the winter season and started tearing it down for several off season projects that I plan to do. One of them is to replace the stock exhaust and cat with an aftermarket system & test pipe.

    I am looking to see if there is anyone that can share what they have put on their 308's, where they ordered the parts from, and what the approximate cost was.

    I have an '85 308 QV that I am looking to make sound a little better. There are a lot of systems out there (Larini, X-ost, Tubi, Quicksilver,etc) but trying to get an idea of cost vs sound.

    Thanks in advance.

    I put on a Tubi "only because" I got a great deal on ebay. If I had not got the tubi I would have likely gone with a high performance exhaust such as magnaflow and had a muffler shop do the install. Although I like the tubi I have, I would not have paid what they normally run when you can get good sound and performance at a fraction of the cost in the aftermarket. Just my 2cents.

    Joe / Micheal,

    Thanks for your posts. Why is the new owner of your car selling the Stebro?

    I got these prices off of Carobu's web-site:

    Tubi (louder version) - $3,525
    X-Ost - $2,900 (available in sport and race sound levels... I would go for race)

    Because it keeps the air cleaner and it's the law.

    But to stay on subject, I also went the magnaflow route. I'll post some pix soon and maybe do a vid on youtube. Whole system cost me $350 w/o tips (reused my own tips).

    Ditto. Many states have a sniff smog test that cars have to pass, unlike California which has both a sniff and a visual test, so keeping the car running cleanly can be important.

    I have a Stebro on my 3.2 QV. It's very well made, super nice welds, shows no signs of deterioration after 5 years, and is a good 20lbs lighter than stock. However, get ready for some noise in the cabin, including a steady droning/booming sound which can be really tiring. If I had known there would be that level of booming in the cabin I wouldn't have put on the Stebro.

    Incidentally, the Stebro doesn't come highly polished - which is nice. Personally, I prefer a bling-free exhaust system.

    for 2 years I took the car to a concours level and the exhuast is a 5 piont deduction,he wanted to keep the car as orginal like I did and the car has been getting 97+,the last show it took 2nd,1st place if he could've got the car to start that day,parked on a hill on a 1/4 tank of gas doesn't help! But when I had the car it would take 90 mins. to swap them out and it was no ploblem for me to do it between shows and enjoy the awsome sound of a f1 sound of a race car

    Just removed my X-OST from my '84 QV after 2000 Kms. Was too noisy for long drives. Got a more silent one from UK . $ 1000. and it is yours- i put it on E-bay but no taker. Let me know at [email protected].

    Mine came with the Tubi and I like it. It definetly has a presence, although I dont think its as loud as my Trans Am (modded 350, loud exhaust).

    I too found it hard to spend a tenth of the cars price on a replacement exhaust, so went with a Flowmaster and am happy with it. It is a bit loud for long cruises and my wife wears ear plugs.

    I suggest you ride in a few cars like yours with different exhausts untill you find one that you can stand to drive long distances with and sounds good to you.

    I rode ina Mondial that had two blast packs in place of the cats, with no further muffling. It would be intolerable for anything but short drives and likely to draw way too much attention from The Man.

    If you live in a remote area, your best bet is to attend a few ferrari functions and do a thourough search of the old posts.

    hth,
    chris

    The TA was my first car and I STILL have it. It needs some cosmetic stuff, but is absolutely 100% reliable. Its pure gruff muscle and a lot of fun. Besides, it adds depth to my growing car collection.

    TA = muscle
    Ferrari = exotic
    Expedition = workhorse
    Escape = wifes car/higher fuel mileage for road trips

    So, life is good!!

    I put the Tubi on my Amerispec '83 QV because it was the only aftermarket system at the time (january 2008) that fit this transitional year.

    Expensive...yes. Great quality and bolt-on fit...yes. Good sounds...yes, after replacing test pipes on my TX desmogged car with small mufflers.

    Ditto. Mine had a Tubi installed when I got it. Love the sound and it has held up well over the years I've owned the car.

    That said, I've been watching the Magnaflow thread that is running in this section parallel to this one and find what people are doing with the dual/dual Magnas very interesting. I think it I had to install a 308 exhaust right now, I'd seriously consider doing one of those set-ups. Looks decent and bet it works and sounds great.

    I like Trans Am's too (as well as Harley's, lol). I almost bought a black '75 a couple years ago, but only because it was really cheap. If I ever bought one for real I want a 69, 70 or 71 with 455. I would even consider building a clone. I always laugh thinking back to 1979, R&T tested the Corvette, the Trans Am, and the Z28 in a shoot out. The TA ran circles around the other two, slalom, 0-60, 1/4 mile, skidpad, 60-0 and 80-0. Pretty funny for a 4 seater from the same company to blow away the flagship sportscar.

    As far as cats being the law? Not on my 1977 308 they are not. It says NON-CATALYST right on the door post. I dont need no stinkin cats.

    I remember the guys who had the TA's back in the 70's were #1 with all the girls! Those of us driving the massive overpowered 4cyl Ford Courier Pickup trucks were a distant 14th! LOL If I found a great deal on a Black TA I'd buy it today. Always loved that car. East bound and down, Hammer down "Bandit"!

    Thanks guys for all your thoughts. No offense to anyone who has one, but I am not a big fan of the Magnaflow (I have been following that thread as well). I am sure it sounds wonderful, but I want something that looks a little more like it was designed for the car (I prefer to go used for one of the key aftermarket manufactures). My car spends 99% of its life up on the lift so I see more of the exhaust from the bottom than from any other line of sight.

    bonneaud, is your X-ost for a USA or Euro (no cat) version?

    Jim, I am going to go look at the X-ost on E-bay now.
