I test drove this very car a few weeks ago. It presents pretty damn well in person. Not a show car, but better than some I've seen parked at shows. The interior has some dirt/wear/patina, but not enough to warrant any immediate restoration. It has a tubi exhaust, but owing to the cats it isn't that loud. I had no trouble with the 1-2 shift what-so-ever, even with the gearbox stone-cold. When they brought the car out from inside, It dribbled a little oil on the ground, but after I gave it a good run I checked it again, that seemed to correct itself. The tachometer was all sorts of goofed up -- lagging the actual RPM by several K and several seconds. I suspect a bad ground (at the ignition boxes maybe?). Also, the speedometer was a standard 180 mph unit, and all (or nearly all) 81's came to the US with the those stupid 80 mph "respect the national speed limit" jobs -- but the dealer claims the mileage indicated is actual, as far as they know. Bottom line, it seemed like a good driver-quality car and the guys down there are very nice. They've known the car for a number of years, having sold it to it's current owner (it's on consignment) and I was pretty tempted to have a go at it. If I was in a hurry to buy -- which I am not yet -- it would probably be in my garage right now. Good luck, if you go for it.
the owner of San Francisco Sports Cars has a very excellent reputation in the car community in San Francisco FWIW.
Nice example and in maybe a little above average condition. It will be interesting to follow and see if it sells for $35K . The question here is anyone willing to buy it for that price or what would you offer.
