I'm looking for help with determining a fair and reasonable price to ask for my 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS. It still has it's original Rosso Dino paint in fantastic condition. And with the help from the great people on Ferrarichat, you guided me to the Leatherique restoration process. The original leather interior turned out gorgeous. I followed the instructions posted by Michael Charness, taking a period of three months from the start of conditioning the leather to completion. It coluld be done quicker, but couldn't be done better. I would appreciate if people would view the car at franciscollision.com/cars.htm and give your opinion of what the car should sell for and the best way to market it. There is currently a price of $35K on the car, but I would like more opinions. I'm happy to pay a finders fee to the person who finds a buyer. There are other cars on the website I am also selling from the personal collection.

Seems to me you are in the QV price range for a carburated car so it sure looks expensive to me. Nothing wrong with carbs by the way, just that in Calif. I have been told they can be hard to get passed smog. I am not sure what all the paperwork, tools, etc. that you have brings up the value, to me nothing since I want a driver. Others will chime in with more authoritative answers as I don't own one YET !

The carbs have not been an issue. One would think there would be a concern in California, but I have smogged this car every other year for nearly twenty years. Thanks for your response.

I have a '78 GTS and I WISH they were worth $35k. Depending on the overall condition I'd guess around $25-30k. If it were a glass car, then there would generally be about a $10k premium.

    Just my $.02

in europe (Holland) a very nice glass car (35.000 original km`,s, silver with red leather, all the invoices etc) just sold for 35.000,= euro`s, about $ 28.000,= I think.
GTs are offered around 25.000,=/30.000 euro, so around $20.000-24.000,= .
(asking prices, they sell for less..)

one guy is trying to sell his 1985 GTB, yellow,USA car, some work, the bidding stops at $ 16.800,-, I think its a fair price for the amount of work that has to be done, he doesn`t...

It all depends on how much time you will take to sell.

In my experience, if a car will not sell quickly, take it of the market for a while and try again later. The guy with the yellow GTB is making a fool of himself, he is advertising for a year now, regularly, and has declined fair offers on hte car, so now the bidding is getting lower instead of higher...

The Euro is currently worth more than the dollar. So the exchange would put those prices at around $40k in the first example. The dollar is not buying much oversees right now.

I just checked and this morning 30,000 euro = $35,833 us.

When I bought my car I searched the web and found like 50 1983 GTS that had sold in the previous 3 months worldwide. That was last July when I did the reasearch. If I remember correctly the average price for an '83 was about $33,000 with the highest one I found at $52000 which was sold somewhere in europe. They also sold one at barrett jackson for $64k but I did not put that in my average I think people there get caught up in the moment and spend more than they have to.

These were selling prices I averaged not asking prices. So why don't you do the same for yours.

sorry... made my calculation the other way around....(like I use to do when dealing with the USA, but than I buy..)

    sorry again!

But like I said, that are asking prices, not selling...(besides the glass GTB, but that was a steal, still sad I didn`t buy it myself, someone else beat me to it...
