I'm looking for help with determining a fair and reasonable price to ask for my 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS. It still has it's original Rosso Dino paint in fantastic condition. And with the help from the great people on Ferrarichat, you guided me to the Leatherique restoration process. The original leather interior turned out gorgeous. I followed the instructions posted by Michael Charness, taking a period of three months from the start of conditioning the leather to completion. It could be done quicker, but couldn't be done better. I would appreciate if people would view the car at franciscollision.com/cars.htm, and give your opinion of what the car should sell for and the best way to market it. There is currently a price of $35K on the car, but I would like more opinions. I'm happy to pay a finders fee to the person who finds a buyer. There are other cars on the website I am also selling from the personal collection.
I can be contacted by phone @ 559-307-5878

    It's $37.5 on that site.

The highest I've seen a 308 with LESS than 30K miles go for in the last two years is $32. It was an off color '77 GTB with complete service in the 6-months before it sold (belts, tensioners, water pump, rebuilt carbs, single distributor ign., valve shims, new hoses, fuel filter and brand new AC comperssor and hoses), and the interior was as nice as yours.

Someone on this site has been trying to sell there '77 GTS for over a year now. They started at $35k and I think they're down to $27 now. That car has a rebuilt tranny and lots of other service work in the last 12-18 months and 60k miles.

I guess what I'm saying is, if you're just putting it out there to satisfy you're wife that you're trying to sell it, then leave it at $35k. But if you really want it to sell you need to come down to about $30k and maybe you'll get some interested parties.

You make me laugh, wanting to please my wife. That's a great strategy but I am serious about selling the car. The web designer was suppose to have changed the price to $35K by now. Meanwhile, thank you for posting your opinion. I'll wait and review the general consensus and adjust the price accordingly. Jeff

I know we have all been through this before but I personally know of 2 different 77 GTBs that have sold for north of 33k in GA in the last year. Admittently these were both excellent cars and sold via word of mouth but I would stick at 35k unless you are in a hurry.

Terry's car sold for ~32K and it was primo (it's the car I described above). He deserved the price he got b/c of all he put into it.

Everyone told the guy with the '77 GTS to stick to his guns at $35k as well (his name escapes me right now) but he's still got it and the price is now down to $27k.

I'm not believing a 40,000 mile 308 with no rock chips & original paint. Sorry, but the factory paint just wasn't that good.

A 77 308 GTB with 80,000 miles just sold on here for 22K, and it was a pretty nice car. Just a data point.

I failed to mention the car has minor touch ups, but it is still the original paint. If you were to inspect the car in person you could see the aged areas. But still very nice considering it's originallity. Thank you for your response.

If you're refering to Mike's car, it was a QV (same miles and price).

Sean, yes I bought Terrys car for 32.5k but the ones I am talking about are a different two, one blue and one silver. I also saw a very nice yellow 77 GTB sell on ebay last month for I think 34k? Condition really is all for these cars and I think really good ones bring all the money as its way cheaper to buy something good than a fixer upper. For what its worth there is a very high mile (140k) one at Flashback in Atlanta right now for 35k and eventually he will probably get it. I think the key to getting the right money for a great car is to sell locally to either another club member or someone who wants something right. Ebay and such won't bring good money and the recent yellow GTB with Bo Pirkle paint could have probably brought more elsewhere.
    This of course is JMHO

I'm confused about the paint color.

Isn't Rosso Dino an Orange color? The car looks like standard Rosso Corsa to me. Please let me know as I'm confused. Thanks!

    And it was an 85...

And had closer to 90k lovingly driven miles...as you would lovingly drive a 6' blonde.

Also remember that is was an aggressive cash buyer that bought it and it was gone in 26 hours after putting it on eBay. I probably would have gotten more then 24.5k for it but would have had to deal with the flake buyer syndrome.

I also later sold those BBS rims it had on it for more then I paid for my reproduction QV rims...now that made my day. I hope the buyer (an fchatter) will post pics of his red 308 with them on there.

i sold my 78 gts for $22,500, my Dino gt4 for $15,000 and my 77 GTB for $25,000 (after it sat at $29,000). if you are serious about selling it and moving on, you will need to lower the price. otherwise you will have a long wait.

that car at Flashback needs lots of love, or it did last time i saw it. sucker for every seat theory i guess.

low to mid 20's are what most 308's ACTUALLY SELL FOR if the seller wants them to "actually sell" and not sit on the market forever.

Cool - I do like that color.

Laguna - Do you have any pics that show the true color?

Agreed the flashback car is way overpriced but originality and condition is all with early 308s to bring the big bucks.

Great feed back, I appreciate that.
Rosso Dino as another chatter mentioned is orange. The Dino picture displays the color quite accurately. I will try to take a few outside pictures and post for an accurate color representation.
I understand a car is worth only what the market allows, but I'm telling you guys as a car collector and a person who does not have to sell, this is way too nice of a car to sell for sub $30K. Hey worst thing that could happen, I end up with one of the nicest carbureted 308's and I have $30K less in savings.

    Jeff,

You have one outstanding 308! I think the price you're asking is a good place to start. Spring's almost here and the market will be coming alive.

I advertised my car locally, the first guy to show up paid the full price of $35K, and was appreciative of the car. I was told by some on Ferrari Chat this was too much money for this car. Thankfully I realized how quality dictates value, and ignored the under valued comments. Thank you for all of your comments, helpful or not.
