Quick question, should there be some kind of ground strap from the fuel sender to the chassis? I ask because I just got my 308 on the road and the gauge is very erratic like a poor ground. I have tested the gauge and it functions ok on its own. The sender also seems to ohm out ok. However I have noticed there is no good ground connection from the sender to chassis as the tank is rubber mounted. Does anyone know if there should possibly be a ground from the sender or the tank to the chassis?

There is no ground strap, just the three wires that connect to the sender itself, of which the center one is the ground. Not sure where the ground wire connects to, but you can check continuity to ground from that center ground terminal with a meter. But I'm pretty sure that ground doesn't impact the gauge reading, as my understanding of fuel gauges is they are simple 2 wire resistance measuring devices. So more likely your sending unit is simply in need of a clean. Perhaps varnished up from a long time sitting empty.

Thanks! I think I may need to trace back that ground and see if it is connected properly. I’ll check the sender as well but my issue seems more like a ground. It will read properly, then bounce all over to zero and come back. It also seems dependent upon electrical load on the vehicle.
