    Can anybody confirm for me:

    Is it possible to remove the crossover pipe to replace the 2 short hoses without having to loosen/remove 1 or both fuel tanks?

    I haven't been under there in a while, but it seems like you could:

    1) drain all fuel
    2) remove hose clamps/cut the old hoses off
    3) remove the crossover pipe
    4) slide the new hoses in place inward on the crossover pipe
    5) replace pipe, slide hoses outward over onto tank nozzles..

    Am I crazy?

    (probably, but for other reasons! :) )

    Yes, it can be done. Make sure you drain all the fuel out of the tanks - do that outside. It will ruin you day if you blow up the garage. The problem is in sliding the new hoses over the pipes. Use either soapy water or silicone to lube all the pipes. Also, have band-aids handy.

    Paul is right-on with this. I did it with the engine out, and it was a bit of a project. I had both tanks in place. If you get the right size hose and use some silicone spray, it's not too bad. But the space is cramped working from underneath, and not a lot of room to twist the hose with a hand to move it. Remember to remove the clamp in the middle of the pipe and watch the sharp edges of the heat shield.

    Also, when you drain the tank, remember, there will still be a fair amount of fuel in the cross-over, unless you can remove the drain plug. On mine, that was impossible. It was frozen in place, and it's not something you'd want to try to use a torch on to heat it loose (think "Kaboom!!"). So if you have the same problem, be careful you don't end up dumping a bunch of gas all over yourself when you cut the hoses.

    I got this back together with both tanks in and the crossover pipe in. There was enough room to slide the hoses on the tank nozzles far enough to get them onto the crossover.

    I ordered the 2 pieces last year from Superformance UK, along w. the quick ratio steering rack, new breather hoses, a back-up air filter and a back-up fuel pump.

    They really have great pricing..

    Just finished changing fuel sleeves on my 328. My car seems to be a little "hand made" in that the factory hoses (sleeves) will not fit--they are too short. It is hard to find 1 3/8" ID fuel hose. They have some at McMaster Carr, but it has wire in it and it is hard to slide on the pipes. The best one I found is shown in PDF and Cody at 801-487-5721 sells/ships it for $10/foot. The only downside is that it is 1/4 wall Vs 3/16" OEM so the OEM hose clamps won't fit. The hose slides right on and clamps down easily.
    The tube comes out by tilting it up and sliding it toward the drivers side.
    Make sure when you put the Assy back together that the pipe does not rub on the shifter shaft or the coolant pipes.
    If your car has an O2 sensor you may not want to use Silicone to lube the hose for installation--Silicone is known to destroy O2 sensors.

    BTW, the sleeves seem to deteriorate from the outside so I am considering wrapping the hose in Alum foil.

    It can definitely be done, as others have attested. The advice about the heat shield is correct and it can be a frustrating ordeal to get everything back together. I just used some good quality fuel hose from NAPA (don't remember the part number off the top of my head but I can probably find it in my records if you are interested).

    Well, I finally got to this project yesterday, after having the Superformance crossover hoses in a box for a couple years... :)

    I was able to install the hoses without removing either tank. Just needed to loosen the central clamp that holds the crossover pipe in place, then enough lateral movement was available to work the old hoses off/new hoses on, plus new hose clamps.. No lubricant needed, except for my thirst! The old hoses, 31 years old on my 77 GTB, looked pretty good, nowhere near failure IMO. However, the OE clamps were rotting, and fell apart in my hands!

    Now I have all new fuel hose in my car. Peace of mind--priceless!!
