Watching on Discovery channel right now "Explosions Gone Wrong". One piece was 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB owner Derek Walker filling up his newly restored car and it done blew up. Derek was OK. Anyone else see? Derek on here? Bellevue, WA.

Saw that myself, but I think saying that a "static spark" caused it seemed to ignore that maybe the rubber filler hose had a huge leak ;)

Some of the other fires/explosions seemed to originate on the ground.

Indeed - in subsequent interviews around here, he revealed that in fact it WAS
the main filler hose with cracks.

AND that he only had liability insurance - total loss.

REPLACE THOSE HOSES and BUY FULL INSURANCE!!!!

June 24, 2009: Aerosmith's guitarist Brad Whitford bumped his head on his Ferrari and will miss scheduled concerts... http://hellonhighheels.blogspot.com/2009/06/dont-hit-your-head-on-ferrari.html

At first, it was believed to be static spark (which can happen), but later revealed to be a torn rubber fuel filler hose. It had just been painted, so since it was in the paintshop, the father/son owners didn't insure it at all. Now, he's asking $11,000. for it as-is, but I understand it may need $10,000. to restore it. In the video, he quickly jumps and runs - lucky him!
