How??? I want to "letherique" the seats but can't seem to remove them! I have undone the bolts at the side of the seat near the seat belt mounting points, also 2 bolts underneath the headrest, but the seat doesn't want to budge... Obvisouly I am missing something. Looking at the spare parts catalogue pics, there doesn't seem to be any other bolts. Any help appreciated! G
Where the other end of the seat belts mount in center console, those bolts hold the seats as well. They are a BIT*H to remove. I use a miniature open end wrench and you have to turn them about 1/4 turn at a time, plus those bolts are fine thread! Bring your patience along! I did it in 2 beers, 1 per bolt. JIM
Cheers for that. The two beers worked a treat! Must have also given us that little bit more strength because the main problem was the fact the leather on the seat was stuck to the surrounding parts. Needed to put a little more "omph" into it. Thanks!
The PO had removed them to troubleshoot a squeaking noise that was coming from back there. (I still have it!) When he put the rear seats back in, he forgot to hook up the seat belts. I had to put them back in so the girls can ride back there. While I had the bolts out, I pulled out the seats to: 1-do it to see how they come out for when I do leatherique and 2-see if I could find the squeaking part. JIM
"Well you have balls! I like balls" (Team America World Police) I drove my GT4 up on some weird roads in SB today and even though I rebuilt my rear suspension the parts squeak a bit on rough roads at mainly slower speeds. I wish I had a rear shelf car!! But a Euro would do. Actually my GT4 will do! Hey I have never seen what under ther take some pictures while you are at it!!! Rob
It's not overly exciting under there. Depends I guess if you have the foam or not. These are two pics. One which shows the foam underneath the seat. Very tempted to remove the foam and replace it with dynamat. Not sure I could handle any engine noise losses! The foam easily peals off from what I have tried. The middle part of the seat that has the seat belts just lifts out once unbolted. The other is the back of the seat itself. I love how it is a fiberglass construction! Wicked! This reminds me, is it typical for the main interior colour to be different from the headlining? I assume it is. Headlining seems to be Crema in color. It's actually pretty simple! The hardest part is getting at the bolts in the center console. They are crammed very tight into the corner. I have to use a miniature open ended wrench to turn them. Once all the bolts are out, the seat comes right out. It is very light and easy to move. Grub, Post pics and details on the leatherique. I'll be doing it this fall.! Glad you got it out. JIM
No, just move them all the way forward and tilt them. My passenger seat does not like to tilt forward, so I had to contort a little, but it comes out rather easily. JIM
I am doing a complete strip and re-dye so wanted the seats removed. If you are going to do it, do it well! You should know this! I'll post pic's once things are done. I saw the 619 and wondered what that was about! My car is a 1979 308 GT4 Euro #15352 so the 619 has no real meaning. Unless it does??? Anyone? Robert, I have noticed your request for GT4 pics and I'll send you some when I get some good ones (doing some work on that car at the moment). I wish my engine bay looked as good as yours! Immaculate!!!

Just looking at your pictures and noticed that you have three point seat belts in the rear - I presume with inertia reels ? I just have lap belts at the moment but want to add three pointers. I know the manual says the car is ready to take an over the shoulder mount and I can see this on your car, but I don't want to co cutting leather until I find the mounting hole. Can you take sime measurements of it's position ? cheers Lee '77 RHD GT4
Lee, They aren't inertia reels. Manually adjusted. I have just taken the headrests and leather around that area out so I'll take some pics for you while all appart. It's all factory done so I assume in '79 they were installing 3 point systems. I'll give you some measurements also. Hopefully the mounting points are already there in your car. It was quite interesting to remove the rear headrests. They are bolted into the engine bay so you must remove these nuts first. Once the headrests are removed, there are 4 rivets, 1 each for the end pieces and another 2 for the centre piece. Easily drilled out and the pieces remove easily afterwards. Cheers, G
Thanks, that will be helpful. From my experience with other cars, it seems that three mounting points were standard from the late 60's, early 70's - just that people didn't fit them. Lee '77 RHD GT4
There are a lot of leather pieces in the back of a GT4!!! All out and cleaned with thinners. Now that took a while. Still need to do the dye step. Pic of rear seats plus all the bits around them. Plus door panels. Before the seat felt really dry and plasticky. After cleaning off the old dye and using Rejuvenator oil, they feel so nice!!! Won't be done for another few weeks but going to be worth it!!! Then onto the front seats and center console! Lee, I have pm'd you. Send us your email address and I'll mail some hi-res pics of the mounting location. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow! I can identify every piece there, but did not realize there were that many when you set them all together like that. I'm interested in some detail pics....did you take any before/after? JIM
Hi Grant, It looks like I need to replace the front seat belts more urgently then the rears now as the passenger side has a rib in the belt. Once you take the main rear seat out is it easy to get to the front seat belts i.e. easy to get the read side panels off ? thanks Lee
G'day Lee, The side panels are being held in by about 8 rivets. So once the back seat has been removed, you need to drill them all out. Relatively easy to do. Then it's a case of using a shifter to get at the reels. Probably the bigest problem will be putting everything back and riveting things up. I am yet to go through this process as having lots of engine work being done and the cars in the shop. Can't wait to get it back as I have dyed all the bits. Came up great! I'll post some pics! Cheers, G
Ok, yes I see the rivets on your pictures. I've replaced seat belts with "securon" onse before, http://www.securon.co.uk/. Not on a GT4 so I need to see what they look like before I order the correct style and length. Sure they won't be as originally fitted, but they should be the same spec. Lee
