Hi I am looking to buy either a 1979 308 gt4 Dino or an 1985 to 1988 308/328 GTS. Prices for both cars are some what different, but what is a better car to enjoy and that will be easier to sell after I am done with it? Thanks.

That all depends what kind-of condition the car is in. If the car is great, all the services are up-to-date, the car has no stories, you shouldn't have a problem selling either of them - GT4 or GTB/S.

328's are one of the most reliable and easy to use out of that group. They'd also be the most expensive, next down on price are the 308 QV's - just as good as the 328's but they're older. GT4's are the most comfortable and are good for tall people (6ft range). If you're a DIY'er mechanic, they're easier to work on (engine lid opens up with more clearance allowing better access to the front bank of the engine).

You'll probably get a couple of replies here, every few minutes, but:

Depends on your budget. If you're more in the $50K+ range, I'd recommend a 328:

    1. The most refined/reliable of the lot - upgraded components throughout
    2. Rustproofed
    3. Good driveability due to Bosch fuel injection and improved electricals

Subjectively, I think the 328 is best-looking of the cars you mentioned, and a lot of people prefer them - which helps resale. But a lot of guys think the others look better, so decide for yourself.

Down a rung in price, the 308 QV (84-85) are great cars, and have a lot of refinements compared to the early cars.

For low bucks ($30K), I would personally look at the carbed or early injected 308 GTS/GTB. IMO, the early injected cars take a big price hit due to low horsepower (and it is low...) but look great, sound good and are resell-able due to the same classic looks.

If you're more of a DIY'er and tinkerer, you may enjoy the carbed cars more - even simpler to work on (fuel injection made things more complicated).

As Peter said, find a good one or you will be bleeding money.

+1 The best thing is to drive each one, and get a PPI.

Recently bought a '79 GT4, original condition, 13k miles. I think it really comes down to what you like. I cannot debate how nice a 308/328 styling is...but something to me shouted GT4. The vintage look, the carbs, the handling. Everyone will admit that the GT4 is probably a better handling car than 308/328...but its probably more raw overall.

I like the dashboard "pod" on the GT4, and the vintage looks. So, for me its clear. But the 328 injected is a nice car. I don't think you can go wrong as long as whatever you buy passes PPI, has a recent service, and maintenance records.

There is quite a difference in price, though. Excellent, concours or near concours Gt4's are $30 - $35 in my opinion, really nice condition $25 - $30.

    Just go for it!

Both Bullfigher and JF will tell you I've been "looking" for a while and had the exact same considerations, GT4 vs 308 vs 328.

Besides searching FChat for common problems for each model (and the suggestions previously posted), I HIGHLY SUGGEST you drive each one. I test drove a 75 GT4, 308 QV (84 I think) and a 328 (86) and thats really the ONLY way you'll get the true idea of which one you will like (unless you can afford all 3 :) )

Personally, I LOVE the feel of the GT4 and 308, but I'll probably get a 328 because I'm not the wrencher type and I'd rather have one I can drive versus "tinker with".

PLEASE GO DRIVE THEM! If you're in a major metro area, there should be at least a few 308s and 328s for sale, go drive em. GT4s are a bit rarer.

I think you would get most enjoyment/$ out of the GT4, but it may not be the easiest to sell on. To be honest, with all these cars you are buying at the wrong time of year to be able to get a good price when it comes to selling.

I looked at the 1979 GT-4 that was on Ebay since it was close to my house. It was a very nice car that needed some work, but I think I want to do with a 308 QV. If any one knows of a 84 or 85 QV black/red or red/tan in excellent condition with low miles, please let me know (847)275-4363. Thanks again, Gene

I've got a 328 but I have to agree I love that car from the pictures! Previous posts all good info, I'd have to think the more modern cars would be best unless your a DIYer. Good luck in your search.

I was in the same position before I bought my 308 GTB. It totally depends on your decision, which design you like more, Bertone's or Pininfarina's.
