Hello, just bought my first Ferrari, it is a 4/75 registered european version car. I have an owners manual for a 1976 model (from Superformance) and there are two different ignitions described there: one and two distributor models. My car has two distributors but there is only one point/distributor, not two points as described in the wiring diagram. Is the wiring chart different for a 1974/1975 car with 2 distributors compared to the 1976 model with 2 distributors? We now have a lack of electricity from the original wires and the former owner has made a new wire to one of the ignition coils and we cannot start the engine now. Any suggestions of how to get the wiring correct done?

The US cars had two distributors so perhaps that wiring diagram would help?

The US spec cars had 2 distributors each with 2 sets of points. This was for meeting US spec emissions standards at idle with the second set of points taking over under idle conditions by retarding the spark timing. There was a micro switch activated by the throttle linkage at the carb serving cylinders 1 & 2 mounted just above the cam cover. A Euro car would not have this ignition set up.

Standard (euro) version 308GT4 also came with 2 distributors each with 2 sets of points) as described in the 308GT4 WSM (see page L13). But having only one set of points is a common modification; however, that has nothing to do with +12V getting to the coils terminal 15 (the yellow wires) with the key "on". If you still have the stock fuseblocks, check the condition of the top area of fuses #1, 2, and 3: +12V power should come into the top of fuse #2 on the A (light blue) wire when the key is "on". It is then bridged over to the top of fuse #1 to the G (yellow) wire connected there by the rivets and metal plate on the backside, and that yellow wire goes to the coils. Very common to get a bad connection at the rivets (especially if you've installed a high power ignition system that needs more current). Bottom line is you need +12V on the yellow wires at the coils when the key is "on".

You can get a pdf copy of the 91/74 OM that would apply to your euro 1975 308GT4 with this link:

(See the wiring schematic in Section 5.)
