    Hello all !

I have'nt posted much but have been reading for a while and I know what a great help everyone can be so I thought I'd ask a few questions.
First of all, I'd like to put some better exhaust on my GT4. I here a lot of talk of tubi, ANSA, etc. Has anyone used the Superformance? I'd like to get rid of my cat's alltogether and go with the "EURO" type exhaust. Also remove the airpump and all related items. There are no emission controls for a 78' vin car so there are no worries there. Any thoughts?
Also I've been reading alot on the 16" QV wheels too. But I've read too much and now I'm confused on which ones fit without mods, which are stock, or repops.....aaaaggghhhhh.
And quickly, most of the pic's I've seen of other GT4's,(which all look great by the way). It appears the backend of the car sits abit higher in the rear than mine. The rear wheels seem to tip in a bit at the top on mine also. The car seems to ride great, but I wonder if the shocks are up to par or ?
Can anyone help a rookie Ferrari guy out ?

    Kurt

    Kurt,

Welcome! I have a 75 and It seems to ride pretty level front to back. The tire camber can be changed by special washers that are placed in the lower suspension control arms where they attach to the frame. This would casue the negative camber that you are experiencing. Can you post some pics of your car to show what you are talking about?

I have a tubi and can really honestly say I feel they are the best sounding having heard a few others. They are not cheap but the increase in response time coupled with a K&N filter made my car much happier.

I found a set of QV wheels a friend on this site had and am really happy with them, but once again you will pay and arm and a leg, for a lot less you can get the Superformance wheels which will fit perfectly 7x16F 8x16R. I got Bridgestone S-02 205F & 225 Rear and they kick ass!!! BTW TR in Atlanta has them in stock ask for Brian

BTW save everything you remove, even the smog junk is important for posterity.

Thanks for the tips. So the Superformance wheels need no mods to fit, even the center caps? That sounds great. There exhaust probably is pretty good too.
Your car looks great! At least from what I can see. It looks like you can see the stainless exhaust thru the rear grill. Is that a stock cover. Mine looks different. I like the way yours looks. I'll try and post some pics soon.

    Thanks again

    Kurt

    Kurt,

A mechanic friend of mine said that the front dust seal caps would not fit into the QV wheels, but I had no problem whatsoever, however I think the replacement dut seals are a tad bit bigger? You could ask the Superformance guys cause they are gt4 guys. Yes it is the stock rear grill the later cars had a metal grill with perforations similar to the gtb. I assume if your car has cats it is a 79?

Actually, it is the 328 wheels that have an issue with the front dust seal caps. Nonetheless, it is a relatively easy modification to the dust cap to fit the 328 wheels. The advantage of the 328 wheels is that they are relatively cheap if purchased through Ferrari-UK. Also, I think they make the car look a little more agressive.

Exhaust- I have a Stebro exhaust. Sounds great, and is 1/2 the price of the tubi. Downsides are that it is not as polished as the tubi, and there are some people that have issues with the quality (I have had 2 exhaust leaks since getting the exhaust installed) and ordering/timeliness from stebro.

So it is the 328 wheels that have the issue. That helps a lot. It seems that no one has used the Superformance exhaust. The pic on their web page looks pretty shiney, although you probably could'nt see it on mine because of the shield/grill over the exhaust. Mine is a 78'. I can't thank everyone enough for all your help. I'm new to the Ferrari world and can't give much advice yet, but I'm a Journeyman Machinist with 25+ yrs exp. If anyone needs help in that direction feel free to ask and I'll help all I can. Also...all the pics are great.

The previous owner of my '75 gt4 has installed a custom system which I think sounds every bit as good as a Tubi. It consists of a Magnaflow 2 in, 2 out mufler (#12468) and two twin outlet exhaust tips #MT 2589. These may all be Magic Mufler part numbers as that is where it was installed. The installation is technically not very good, (hangers etc) but that would vary from shop to shop. The exhaust tips look good, and are correctly positioned even with my rear bumper moved in 2". The receipt says installed cost was $335. (about 4 years ago) My car does not have the stock rear slotted valance (does anybody have a spare?) that that covers a stock mufler. But again it sounds great, and the price cannot be beat.

Don;t know where you are located but I'm having some screens fabbed as a final step in restoration on two 308GTBs.

The tough part is obtaining the stagger slot perf metal, and the fact that the center to center varies among the brands.......

ONe of mine had a locally fabricated system as well, but sadly they chopped the actual rear valence whenthey hit the tip elevation too high...

$850.00 later I'm adding a new rear body panel! FerrariUK had one.

    Martin,

I just beat that price at Reseda Muffler! I showed them your (above) post, and they quoted me $250. Final cost: $261.55. It took about an hour-and-a-half. They used my existing tips. But still... A great price!

I listened to yours as you left Thrusday, and figured that's would suit me just fine, until I can afford (which maybe never!) a Tubi. So now mine looks and sounds just like yours.

So.... Anybody out there want a pair of glasspacks for a 308?

I wanna hear that damn car! Even if you have to go out to the garage with a cordless phone and me on the other end!!! I still have the factory exhaust on my car, complete with 27 years worth of burnt-out catalytic convertor substrate rattling around inside (okay, I shook most of it out).

    Yo BigTex,
Want to do a group buy on those screens for the back end of the '77? I need one too. Mine is all banged up and nasty looking. How much to have your man do another at the same time?
