Hello all, I've already posted this query in the UK section.... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/united-kingdom/531774-308-gt4-high-level-vents.html Does anyone know why some 308 GT4s have two pairs of high levels vents above the rear windscreen, whilst others don't? From the online searching that I've done so far, it doesn't appear to be age, region or air-con / non-air-con related?! Thanks in advance, Paul
I believe from memory this was mentioned somewhere before. From what I remember is that it was for ventilation. But it was difficult to keep the interior cool. I may have my facts jumbled though
My car is a '79 with a sunroof, and it does not have the vents you mention. The only other GT4 I've been inside was a Series 1 '75, and it did have them IIRC. It may be just as simple as sunroof or not, as the headliner does sit lower in sunroof cars to account for the internal movement of the mechanism.
There was a discussion here years ago about this and I can't remember the exact details but as far as I remeber they are to vent the cabin, not AC related, series 1 and possibly euro only but I could be wrong on that one. I have taken everything out of my interior except the head liner, and I have not seen any ducting that goes to them. So unless there is something under the headliner I'm not even sure how they work. As far as I can tell they are useless and they stopped putting them in at some point. Sent from my LG-H831 using Tapatalk
Paul My car is a late 78 manufactured non sunroof one one and has the vents. I have a friend who worked at Maranello Concessionaires in period and one of his jobs was going round the dealers explaining the various factory service bulletins (of which there were many for the GT4). Somewhere in my memory I seem to recall him telling me that one such bulletin was to do with retrofitting the vents. I may have a faulty memory but that could explain the disparity in some cars of a certain year having them and some not. I had hoped he was going to be at our Thames Valley FOC meeting tonight so that I could ask him, but I will contact him in the next couple of days and see what light he can cast upon it.
Paul I checked with my friend. He says the early cars (he can't say up to what date) had no vents. Then they arrived with vents but no vents in the headliner and there was then a bulletin to retrofit internal vents (alu frame with a mesh insert) into the headliner in front of the rear screen. I am pretty sure mine doesn't have those, but then it was retrimmed in 1990 and maybe they couldn't be bothered. I need to check. I asked him why cars came with vents in the body but not the trim and he says that was the way it was, just get the cars out of the factory with whatever bits they had I am pretty sure that I have seen cars not much older than mine with no vents but I will have to check as I see them again. My friend told me that nothing would surprise him about what came out of the factory at that time.
I have only seen them on non NA cars and I believe water/rain could enter the cabin and eventually the factory recommended sealing them?
I doubt very much that rain water is going to ingress. It would have to be a helluva strong wind blowing into them at that angle!
Noted from a while ago that they were to be sealed to improve AC cooling. There have been a couple of postings. The second link goes to the actual ferrari service bulletin courtesy of Mr. Garvin! So mostly Euro cars had them. A couple old posts: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/141728-gt4-cabin-vents.html http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143076960-post39.html
No vents in mine. UK car with sunroof no air con model yrs 77. Car has been back to metal and there was no sign of any work in the area. I always thought they were fitted to air con models with no sunroof. Euro.
Thanks everyone! For what its worth, the car I'm waiting to collect is a 1977 UK model without sunroof or A/C, and it does have external vents. I'm not sure I noticed anything inside....... Cheers, Paul
PAUL I'm surprised it doesn't have a/c. I thought all UK models came with it as standard. Maybe it has been removed.Does it have the small knee level vents in the centre bottom of the dash? F
