I was wondering if anyone has re-arranged their gauge layout on the 308 GT4. I’m thinking about swapping my clock with my oil temp gauge. It seems to me that the most frequently viewed gauges (water temp, oil pressure, and oil temp) should be in the center of the dash.

Does this make sense to anyone else… or am I missing something?

    Thanks - Chris

Makes sense to me! Although I've never been behind there, so I don't know what the wiring situation is like...

not hard to do, but unless you're going to keep the car forever the next person will be less than happy, even if it makes sense.

You will need to do a LOT of wiring extension but moving the gauges is easy

I would say it isn't worth it , a lot of trouble and as the wiring is old and brittle by now you will induce more faults and then YOU will be REALLY unhappy

Thanks for the thoughts. When I pull the dash out for some other repair work... I'll check out how much effort it would actually take to swap them and make a decision from there.

The first swap should be the most time consuming... putting them back to their original spots should be easy to do if I decide to sell it.

I was just commenting the other day that the oil temp gauge on my 308 is in a bad spot. The fuel gauge is in the middle of the dash cluster and the oil temp is down by the door. Don't think I'll be switching mine though, it would be a lot longer move!

So that *is* factory, then! Myself and a friend were looking at a 308 at a local weekly gathering, and he noticed the location of that gauge and asked me if it was factory (he's not up on Ferraris). I said that I wasn't sure, because I had never noticed one there either! Now I know... :)

If I were going to move the gauges, rather than re-wire, I'd run patch cables from the originals to the new guage positions. This way the old, brittle wires stay put and when your ready, you can hit the "GoBack" button by just pulling the patches.
if you can't find those plastic wire plugs/connectors at Radio Shack or Jameson, I'd splice it in leaving the originals intact. Klugey? perhaps.

Actually, that's really not a bad idea. Then again, I'm no electrician, but it makes sense to me!

dont do it, unless you have to removing th cluster was a nightmare for me to get out my cock to have it repaired The sides have to come of and all the edges are sharpened and easily cut the old vinyl and I remember having to take my wheel off and crawl under the dash for hours, but that was my experience.

You may want to edit your post. You wouldn't want anyone to get any wrong ideas of what you do when working on your car:)

that was meant to be clock! ;-P anyway it was a nightmare, I remember holding the cluster in my lap and could not set it down or it would cut the vinyl and yelling for a neighbor to come over and hold it till I could get something to lay it on. I hear the gtb is easy with 4 screws, however that is just my experience YMMV
