So... I managed to figure out that the left hand side radiator fan terminal on my fuse block on my '75 GT4 was roasted.. I moved the terminal to the right hand terminal and now I have a working horn, clock and right radiator fan...

Here is my question.... do both fans come on at the same time or is it one, and then the other if both are needed? What is normal operating temp for these cars, water temp that is??

Both fans will come on at the same time and should maintain the engine temperature at the mid-way point on the guage

    Hi Serg,
The thermostatic switch in the radiator turns on at 190 F and that activates both fans. The AC switch on your console automatically activates one fan when you turn it on, regardless of engine temp. So if you start the car up stone cold and activate the AC, one fan comes on. (I am not sure which one on a GT4). Once the engine hits operating temp, the other fan comes on as well. If the AC is off, neither fan comes on until the radiator hits 190, then they both come on.

Be sure the foam on the hood above the radiator is in good shape so that the fans push air through the radiator and not over it. Makes a big difference in cooling effectiveness.

Foam on the hood!?! I've never noticed that on mine. I'll have to look into that. I've never really had a cooling problem, sometimes a little warm, but it never really gets that hot here that often anyway.

    Cheers!

    Dino,
Actually I must admit that this is advice for the GTB/GTS so maybe I'm wrong for the GT4. But the GTB/GTS has a strip of foam on the hood that blocks the path of air over the radiator when the hood is closed. MANY cars are missing this little strip of foam because it gets old and brittle and decomposes. Next thing you know, the car is running hot, but the fans are fine. People start talking about inadequate cooling systems, replacement radiators, etc. when all it needs is the foam put back so the air will be forced to go through the radiator rather than around it. The GT4 probably has the same deal, but I'm no expert on GT4 mechanicals.

Indeed it does, and that's excellent advice, Birdman!

    Birdman,

Given the cost/benefit on this one, I am going to do it right away. Thanks for the tip!

I got some replacement foam for mine at the local hardware store. They sell little kits of foam for around household AC units for a couple bucks. Then you can use some spray adhesive on the foam to stick it where it goes.

I immediately noticed a difference in the operating temps in hot weather.
