has anyone removed the rear window on a 308gt4?, my rear glass is cracked just enough to bother me, I have gotten the new glass, but no one wants to install it, since nobody know where to start.

So if anyone has done this, could you tell me?, this way I can guide the installer on how to do this.

    Thanks a million

    almost done with my car

I have not done it myself, but it "appears" that it is urethaned or butyl taped in from the inside, which would involve removing the rear seat and window trim. There is also wiring for the defroster under the upholstery. Once the upholstery is out of the way, it should be easy. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in...

    Hello

My gt4 is stripped down for restoration this moment. I took out everything else, but not the rear window. The stucture of the window is clearly seen in my car, because there is not anything else in place. Window is clued in place, and there is a metal (brass!) U-trim that surrounds the edge of the glass. Simple as that. But it is quite tricky to "saw" the old window off, because the shape of the place where the window sits, has not much room. My car is from year -75.

So its just a clued window (with U-trim) in tricky place, and demands lots of work..

Not to the rear window yet, I am working on removing the rear 1/4 windows on the side.
Can anyone clue me into how these come out? I have everything out around them and I am not seeing it... I do see the 2 screws that hold the straight, vertical chrome frame piece to the top & bottom window frame rail, are these involved?
    Thanks!

It’s not that difficult to pull the rear window. The rear seat need not to be removed only the head rests (drill out the rivets from inside the engine compartment) and remove the surround paneling and unconnected the rear defogger. The window is cured with urethane just like the front windshield, you can fish hook a wire to separate the urethane from the glass. Side windows are much easier to slide out (pinned and bolted). Most trim parts are riveted and some have a thin coat of glue/sealant behind them. While working inside your car – please protect your interior!

Does that mean I should remove the socket headed screws on the door frame edge of the 1/4 window, and remove the vertical piece, the the rest of the window is pulled forward?

You guys are talking about 2 different glass pieces.
Quarter glass: Remove the thin verticle interior trim piece. Remove the inner glass rubber seal. Find four or five 3/16" pop rivets on the verticle glass frame and drill them out from inside the car. Push the front of the glass & frame outward. The rear is located by a post which just slides in a hole in the body (has a rubber grommet, too). Do not take the aluminum frame apart. Re-assemble with aluminum shank rivets or you will hate yourself later.
