    Hi There!
Any advice about setting up the points on the single distributor twinrotor model,is it possible to set it up on the bench out of the car?
I also assume the firing postion on set A is 5' before TDC and set B is 55' before TDC as I have now focused on my problem of the revs not dropping of on the engine and showing it firing on one bank even when that coil was disconnected! being firstly the distributor cap failing and the spark jumping across from one rotoer firing position arcing thru to the other bank firing positions on changing the cap it has now arcing thru the lower set of points which look "US" also the condensers need changing.
Any advice would be truly greatful.
    Best Regards
    From a very damp Blighty!

This was somewhat discussed in another thread, but yes, it can be done on a bench, but you have no way other than on the car to check your advance mechanism. You need to place the unit over a degree wheel, and adjust your point gap, via a test light, to remain lit for as close to 34 degrees as possible. This will likely be impossible, as you need to check all four cam lobes and find a happy medium between all four. You set the points for the rear bank first, and you also need to rotate the points plate to phase the opening event near the index mark on the distributor housing. Once set, you need to get your forward set of points doing the same exact thing, 90 degrees later. This will be 45 degrees on a degree wheel. This is also perhaps the most critical, that the two points break as closely to 45 degrees apart as possible. Because once set, you can only time the distributor to one flywheel mark, or the other, but not both. The accuracy of the second banks timing sequence will be in how closely you adjust that banks points to open 45 degrees after the first set. So no one gets confused, while each bank fires 90 degrees apart, the distributor turns at half crankshaft speed, thus, 45 distributor degrees.

Again, you will never get it exactly perfect on all four lobes because its just next to impossible without hand filing the individual lobes to match each other. But you should be able to get within a degree or two between all four, and within a degree or so from point set to point set.

From all I have seen and heard, the primary troubles with the advance mechanism seems primarily sticking. Take it all carefully apart, careful not to misplace ANY single part, so it can be reassembled exactly as it was, and clean it up and lubricate it sparingly with white lithium grease.
