    Hello All,

Just recently my GT4 has started to burn oil on cold startup and for about 5 minutes when warming up. I have taken the car for a long drive (600Klm+) and it does not appear to consume much oil. Only at cold start do I have a problem.

On thing I noticed when I did my engine rebuild was that there was no guide for the dip stick where it enters the sump (the one you have to pull out to get the sump plate off).
My dipstick just goes through the external guide and into the sump.

I'm wondering because this guide is missing am I getting a false reading from the dip stick.

I also thought I'd check the crank case vent oil separator just incase it was blocked as there was some oil (not much) in the air cleaner housing. The drain leading from the separator had a low point in the tube before it got to the sump and was therefore trapping some oil. I've re routed this drain tube now so it's a straight gravity feed to the sump.

I also blew some air into this drain tube and heard the noise of bubling oil from the sump, so I can assume the oil level in the sump is higher than the entry point for the drain tube.

I would have thought that the drain tube from the oil separtor would have entered the sump above the maximim oil level which got me thinking that my oil level is too high and my dip stick is telling me fibs.

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    George
