OK so I was looking a Mondial 3.2 to replace the Mondial t that I sold last year.

Now I've seen a 308 GT4 that I like, can anybody give me advice on this model? It looks a very pretty little Ferrari, but what are they like to drive?

What's the spares situation? And any particular weak points I should look out for if buying one?

They are much more raw feeling than later cars. Depending on what you want that's either good or bad. Everything feels very direct. Watch out for rust and defered maintenance. They have been the cheapest Ferrari for a long time and thus haven't seen the maintenance they need and deserve. I don't think there are any unusual parts difficulties. I had one and have driven a few and I really like them. The styling is very much from the period and you either like it or you don't.

Post this in the 308 section. This section is called "Ferrari Discussion (not model specific)" and you've asked about a specific model.

It handles well if you get the after market 16 inch wheels. The stock 14 inch wheels are too small for performance tires. Heater throws dust in your face. AC does not work. Impossible to keep it from leaking oil out of every single orifice. Interior panels are very old and difficult to fix, to work with, and to replace. Dash instruments are a pain in the butt to remove and replace. Slow windows. Lots of rust.

On the other hand, driving position is very good, carbs scream and easy to tune, lots more room to work with than 308/328. And it is a pretty cool car. Don't buy it for an investment. Buy it because you like it.

Having recently experienced a Mondial, and having had several 308 GT/4's, I vote for the 308. I found the Mondial to be impossibly hard to steer at low speeds, and a real slug to drive. The 308's much more fun to drive, in my opinion.

rust is the weak point and to be honest - there are many weak points compared to modern Ferrari. tiny seats, lack of power .... but theres so much character in these cars, you will forgive them.

Like anything a tired one is a chore to drive. Get yourself in one with new suspension, steering wheels etc and man is it a blast.
