dogui Hello, I'm restoring a Ferrari 308 GTB carburettors in 1980, unfortunately the previous owners have changed color several times, now the car is ready for painting. In Ferrari gave me the color code is the original "salchi 6338006 METALLIC BLUE DINO" but unfortunately I can not find the formula or a sample to see how it is ... Can anyone help me?? Thank you so much! Guido
Hello Guido, Good to see your 308 restored to its original colour! My 308 is Blu Dino (Glidden & Salchi 106-A-72). When my 308 was repainted I got a paint sample from a fellow F-Chatter (Omgjon). I could send you a piece of that sample if you give me your address (via PM). Best, Peter
I'll try and remember when I get home but I have a link to the original Ferrari color codes and color samples bookmarked.
Hello Peter! Thank you for the response but unfortunately my color (blue dino Salchi 6338006) is different from yours (blue dino 106 to 72), it is probably more dark! My 308 just waiting for the paint and do not know where to turn, even in Maranello I do not know how to help .... Should I find a ferrari in the same year (1980) with the same code (Salchi 6338006). Thank you so much for your time, and if I have news I'd be grateful! Kind regards, Guido
Hello, Guido; Well, this is what I found out; the code you have, "Salchi 6338006 METALLIC BLUE DINO" is apparently the same as "Glasurit 506 BLU MEDIO MET". I'm attaching images from the Glasurit site with the formula for this color (in Glasurit Line 90 base). I believe you should give it a try, like painting a small part with this formula, and if it suits your needs, make an order for a larger volume paint can. Hello Daniel! Thank you very much for the valuable information! The 308 in the picture is "medium blue?" Thank you very much!
Hello, Thanks for the answers, you can ask for the color code to the owner of the 308 in the picture? Thank you very much
Medium Blue (Blu Medio Metallico) is far more gray. It wasn't available until 308QV, and I know of only one Blu Medio QV. My 328 is evidently one of six Blu Medio cars made throughout production.
Indeed, the "medium blue" is totally different from the "blue dino", and in 1980 did not exist, but ... even the blue dino (Salchi 6338006) is different from the blue dino (106 to 72), same name but different code I find any ferrari with the same code ..... I'm desperate!!
I agree with sammy on one point: Blu Medio Met has indeed nothing to do with blue dino, and is indeed far more gray. But I respectfully disagree on the six 328 in Blu Medio Met: there are more than this (but not lots of them, agreed!); I have already ten confirmed, and I do not have, by any means, the total production cars colors. I know of two in France: a GTS with Gray leather, and a GTB with Beige leather; I have pictures of two GTS in Germany (one, with Beige leather and Black carpets that I seriously thought of buying...); c/n for one in Sweden, etc... Furthermore, I have a lot of cars for which, for the time being, the only indication I have is "Blue", which means that some cars among these could indeed be Blue Medio Met... About 25 to 30 cars in Blu Medio Met would seem more right to me. Rgds
Desperate = haste = mistakes. Caution ! ! ! Please examine '308' thread 'all gt4 colours' which I bumped up for you. Lots of colors on show. Be patient & keep the thread alive someone will be able to help you. There are gun painters & mixers lurking on the forum. Look at the other threads, ask around ! Have you tried contacting your local ferrari club & or specialist ?
Even if it is of no help at all, as there is no color sample, the color is indeed listed here: The Complete And Totally Unauthorized List of Ferrari Paint Colors | Sam Barer\'s Four Wheel Drift so it does indeed exist! And, for the record, the 328 at the top of the page may indeed be in "Blu Medio Met"...
I'm just going on what I was told about three years ago by a woman at Ferrari North America who had looked up production records. (Yes, I'm one of the few people in the world who has actually been able to engage a Ferrari representative in a discussion about paint/build records that resulted in getting info -- rather than a hang-up or no call-back or no return email. It was like winning the lottery!!! Even then, it had taken me two years of off-and-on trying to find someone. I was able to get info on Avorio Safari for the GT4 as well.) They said the records indicated six cars worldwide -- one being North American spec shipped to the US, which was my VIN. As many have said, though, Ferrari has a habit of "finding" information that never existed...or to use my great uncle's family motto (which was on their wall in latin: "what we do not know, we make up") So it's very possible there are more. I'm curious if you've actually seen the 10 paint stickers, because Blu Sera and Blu Chiaro can look darn close to Blu Medio, especially after a repaint -- and both are far more plentiful. (I have a buddy with a Blu Chiaro 328 and I've had my 328 parked next to my friend's old Blu Sera Mondial, and it would be easy to confuse without the other parked next for comparison.) I've only been able to find one other 328 in Blu Medio in America --- a Euro spec car. There is a photo of a QV around somewhere online, as well.
Sammy, I agree with you on the fact that the three Blu (or Blues...) can look very close to each other, especially when there is only one car on a picture. But I think that Blu Medio Met, when you are a bit used to, is in fact the easiest to distinguish, due to the gray in the color which makes it that bit different. For the five above, I am sure, as I have seen the cars and their paint stickers (either "in the metal" or in picture); for five more, I am "fairly sure"; and I have only the c/n and colors of about half the cars produced. Which leaves room for more; and I have quite a number of cars with only the word "blu"; and some with interesting colors names like "blu scuro", which, in theory, wasn't available for 328... As for the Ferrari records, I don't know how they look and what is included in these: I have never actually seen these myself...(this is a bit like the "second metro of Moscow", the secret one that is under the one we all know: everybody knows it exists, but very few people have actually seen it). The only thing I can attest so far, through a friend I know who has seen these, is that the french original and historic importer, Charles Pozzi, didn't really record the true names of the colors in the seventies; sometimes for a car you find not the name of the color in italian but a generic name like "bleu foncé" (which translate into "Dark Blue"). So when you ask them for a car, unless they have the importer's copy of the order with the color specified exactly like in the catalogue, its difficult to know. I guess that when everything was computerised at the factory, it began easier but when did that occur? were all the files, past and present, transposed into the computer? are some files still on paper only? And how do they "extract" statistics? Do you write "Blu Medio Met" and the the computer gives you the list of the cars produced in that color? Those are answers I would like to have for sure; or just have a quick look at it... When I read in a book that "leaving the production line 77% of all 328 were Rosso Corsa, 12% in the two Blacks (Nero + Nero Met) and 11% for all the other colors", where do that information come from? How can I check the actual source? Meanwhile, I try to collect c/n and colors. Hard work especially in Europe, as for reasons that escape me, people are usually protecting the c/n of their cars as these were classified...most "new" cars that are added to my list are european ones; some foreign countries are "unknown and uncharted territory", so there will be surprises. Got to have a look at my record again, as I think that I have at least two North American market 328s in Blu Medio Met with their c/n... Rgds
This might be of interest. Here are three blues on my car: it was original Blu Dino 106-A-72. Then it was repainted by a previous owner to Blu Medio and again later to Blu Sera. Now it's back to Blu Dino. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's a shame you didn't polish it up. It would have been really cool to see all three layers like that with some gloss. I'm sure (understandably) that was the furthest thing from your mind at the time.
Hello Duce! Thank you for your interest in my dealer, they told me that the code provided by Maranello (blue dino met Salchi 6338006) is encoded as Salchi 106 A 6 blue dino ever met., 3234 sand color seats and blue carpets. In the restoration department of Maranello told me "do a similar blue"! SIMILAR??!? If there is a code will be used to something you do not believe?
