    Hi guys,
first of all ,thanks so much for your many inspiring answers on my previous threads. This F-chat is awesome:I can practice my English and experience my 308 addiction all at once.
Two questions for you :My 308 GTB European dry sump smells a little gas in the oil reservoir,is it an issue to worry about? I know most of you own wet sump 308,nevertheless advices are welcome.
Also,my iddle's a little moody, when car's at temperature, iddle has a tendency to drop around 500 rpm when car stops, at red lights for instance, then it goes back to 1000 rpm at the next stop. When I turn on the A/C,it's really bad,the engine almost stops. Is there a way to adjust iddle without touching the carbs so it remains permanently around 1000 rpm?Maybe tightening accelerator cable?
    Cheers,
    olivier

My '79 308GTB is a European specification, dry sump car too. And here is my guess: I would guess that your carbs are set a little too rich. That will cause strange idle AND can wash a little too much fuel at time causing the cylinder walls to be washed of oil. that's how a little fuel gets into the oil. It also can cause excessive cylinder wear. The general advice is to have your carbs cleaned and synchronized and change your oil and filter. Adjusting idle speed alone is fixing the effect, not the cause.

BTW, are you on Robert's 308GTB register? http://www.308gtb.de/

Sure would like to see some pictures Olivier. We owners of non-red 308GTBs must stick together. :)

Rick, your silver baby's a beauty,ah,those sexy wheels...that's gonna be my next move.Yours are 328's and you were talking about some modifications to have them fitted on a 308,could you develop? What about QV type wheels ("16"x"8" and "16"x7"),can they be fitted without any mods?
What type of tires do you have?
    Cheers,
    olivier

Thanks for the kind comments. There are differences with the 328s and the 308s that I didn't know when I bought the wheels. The 328 uses sealed front bearings and therefore doesn't have 'grease caps'. The 308 has conventional grease caps over the bearing hubs. The issue is this: The 328 wheels will not fit the 308 with the stock grease caps in place! One has to find a grease cap to seal the 308's bearings WITHOUT the lip around the cap. That's the bit that won't clear the 328 wheel opening. Alternatively, one could have the opening in the wheels milled out a couple of millimeters.

308QV wheels, also 16", fit perfectly.
