    Hi Martin!

Yes, Japan is RHD, but in the images of some Japanese 308 GTB (I have never seen one in the flesh) the cars were LHD. Most European cars in Japan are LHD. It's an odd "Status" thing they seem to like.

I just cleaned out my in box tonight and saw a message from you, sorry! I will write shortly.

    All the best,

    Carl.

    Here's a question for you :)

Have a look at Robert's list here:

Welcome to the 308 GTB Register

    Click on serial number.

Bearing in mind the LHD and RHD running separately, what do you think about the USA cars, and their build numbers?

Although I am in my 10th year in Japan, I have no definite answer regarding 308 imports here.

I know about 8 vetroresinas currently in Japan, and I believe they were all imported from Europe pretty recently. I have no idea if the official importer of the time, Royal Motors, did import some cars around 76 or 77, but I did find this great site:
    Report

At least, it shows all the cars were LHD, mostly European at first, then switching to American specs at some point in time. Mirrors may have been specific to the market, I don't recall having seen those before.

There were Vetroresina 308's officially imported to Japan at the time and some were RHD, although I'm unsure on numbers. A LHD Ferrari in Japan is very much a "status" symbol.

The mirrors you mention were actually British Leyland "Tex" mirrors ( black version), as fitted to Triumph TR7's (also sold in Japan), at the time and were factory fitted to comply with Japanese regulations of the time.

Ferrari sourced them from the Cheapest vendor at the time....there was also a factory/ dealer brochure produced for the Japanese market IIRC? (Very rare), although I haven't seen one for many, many years.

In April 1984 there was a huge event called "Ferrari days in Japan" organised by Cornes the importer and Yoshiho Matsuda from the Matsuda Collection vintage car club with over 70 Ferrari's turned out...what an event!

    Ah,

FerrariLterature.com has a very nice set of early 308GTB Owners Manuals
    IIRC they want $4,500 USD.

Is your car a Euro or North American version?

The tool kit roll is vinyl.

4right has the first period pouch for 308 then after a while the pattern changed to the one below. I have never seen a 308 with a leather pouch in Europe but that does not mean it didn"t exist for sure...

In Australia, we had leather pouches in the GT4s, but fabric for GTBs, as far as I know.

That's what I always thought, but now i'm curious
